TV host/reporter/play-by-play for the Washington Nationals. Can be seen and heard on MASN, MLB Network, MLB Network Radio. College hoops PxP for FOX Sports.
Didn’t know what I was getting into when I signed up for Cameo, but I’ve truly had so much fun interacting w/ fans. Birthdays, Mother’s/Father’s Day, graduation, etc. Want me to give a personalized video shout out to a friend or loved one? Hit me up here:
Hey Kyle, that player’s name is Trey Mancini and he’s in his first season back after chemotherapy treatments after Stage 3 colon cancer, so maybe, oh I dunno, shut the hell up?
So I just saw that a MLB player didn’t play today because of general soreness. Are you kidding me. It’s September. Everyone is sore. If you can’t play through soreness, you shouldn’t be playing the sport. SMH!
The Nats went 5-0 in elimination games. They won their last 8 postseason road games. They went 4-0 on the road in the World Series against the best home team in baseball. They toppled a 106-win team and a 107-win team. Amazing.
I thought I was a pretty decent Connect Four player. Then I played Max Scherzer in Connect Four this afternoon. He won all four games. Only one was competitive. After the fourth, he stood up, pushed his chair back and said, “You’ve had enough.”
Trea Turner’s wife Kristen posted this on Instagram. There you see Erica Scherzer, Juan Soto, Kevin Long, a World Series ring, and a couple Nats jerseys. What an incredible pic.
The Nationals lead the World Series 2-0. They’ve rolled into Houston, beaten Cole and Verlander, and won two games over a team with the best home record in the majors.
They’ve won 18 of 20. And they’ve won 8 postseason games in a row - which ties an MLB record.
Unreal.
An update for all of you:
I have officially joined the Nationals organization, marking by far the worst signing the team has made all offseason. I’ll be bouncing around in a number of roles on a number of platforms. You’ll see & hear a lot of me. I’m sorry about that in advance.
The Washington Nationals are 2019 National League champions. For the first time in team history, they’re heading to a World Series.
D.C., it’s time to celebrate!!!
BREAKING: The Mandalay Bay casino has acquired a sizeable portion of my checking account and my dignity in exchange for a few light beers. Deal came together over the last few nights. Really picked up momentum on Monday.
It might not have seemed possible on May 23. It might not have seemed possible in the 8th inning of the Wild Card game. It might not have seemed possible in the 8th inning tonight.
But the Washington Nationals are going to the NLCS for the first time in team history.
Nats announce that Dr. Anthony Fauci has accepted their invitation to throw out the ceremonial first pitch on opening day. Fauci is a big Nats fan and has been spotted wearing a Nats mask during the pandemic.
Making all of this sweeter: Not a single member of the Nats’ 25-man World Series roster had won a World Series title prior to last night. The only player on the Nats (active or not) who had - Hunter Strickland. And now all of them get rings of their own.
Real quick - The outpouring of texts/calls/tweets/DMs/AIMs/MySpace messages the last 24 hours or so has been absolutely overwhelming. I cannot tell you how much it means. Fans, colleagues, friends - thank you. Sincerely. Will keep you all updated.
Didn’t do a damn thing to deserve this, but holy hell is it the coolest thing ever.
A huge thank you to the whole Lerner family. Thank you to Riz, Davey, coaches, front office & support staff. The biggest thank you goes to the players, for making 2019 a year I will never forget.
You’re a coach and you’re inciting a brawl during a season amidst a pandemic? You deserve a ridiculously long suspension. You’re supposed to be a leader during all this. (Not to mention challenging a man to a fight and then hiding behind three other coaches.)
At the 7th inning stretch, they played “We Are The Champions” throughout Nats Park, and showed the Caps on the Jumbotron. TJ Oshie then lifted his shirt over his head...and started chugging a beer through it. What a time to be alive.
Anthony Rendon gets his money (big time), and he gets to go somewhere where he won’t be the all-eyes-on-him superstar. A great fit for him. And man, will he be missed in DC. A fantastic human. A fantastic baseball player.
Oh my god that shot of Max Scherzer running over to Juan Soto and Kevin Long, high-fiving them through the screen and blowing them a kiss. Brotherhood. That 2019 Nats team will live forever.
Gerardo Parra is off to Japan, but he will forever have a place in Nats history. From on-field moments like the grand slam in LA, to helping bring the clubhouse together, to turning tens of thousands of fans into sharks on a nightly basis. His mark on the 2019 Nats was enormous.
That’s it. Max Scherzer is done after six innings of one-run ball. Getting handshakes and hugs in the Nats’ dugout. Might that be the last time we see him in a Nats uni? We’ll see.
I absolutely cannot wait to see what DC is like on Saturday. A World Series Championship parade is coming to the nation’s capital. The Caps set the bar high with their partying, but believe me, this Nats squad can let it rip, too. It’s going to be absolutely insane.
Victor Robles has a praying mantis on his hat in center field. It was on his hat in the dugout. It’s a real praying mantis. It’s not a fake thing as part of a prank. He ran out to the outfield and it didn’t fly/fall off. It’s still there. This is…different.
Howie Kendrick announces he’s retiring. One of the most consistent hitters I can remember watching on a daily basis. Owner of the two biggest hits in Nats history. Will never pay for a drink in DC ever again.
The Nats just finished off a 4-game sweep, on the road, over the team that had the best record in the NL entering the series.
The Caps just took their second straight, on the road, over the team that was the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.
What a weekend for DC sports.
Nats fans: Wanted to give you a heads up that I’ll be part of MASN’s Nats coverage this year, as in-game reporter & a host of the pre/postgame shows. I love working with Bob & FP, and I’m excited to be back with them for another season. Thanks to the Nats for making this happen!
Sean Doolittle hasn’t pitched well this season, and he knows it. But a reminder to some of you out there who apparently have already forgotten what happened in 2019 - the Nationals do not win a World Series without him. That’s not opinion, that’s fact. Maybe give the guy a break?
That’s almost the width of two baseballs off the plate away. That call absolutely cannot happen at any point, much less in a World Series game, much less when it would’ve brought the tying run to the plate in the 7th inning of a World Series game.
The Nationals, who started the season 19-31, are going to the postseason. They’ve locked up a Wild Card spot. What an insane, magical regular season. And we’ll see what’s to come.
At the Caps game. Just watched a Caps fan buy drinks for the entire row of Vegas fans sitting right behind me. Love it. It’s sports. Cheer loud, cheer hard. Support your team. But be kind, too.
Dropped this on our postgame show last night, but deserves mention again:
The Nats are the first team in MLB history to overcome two 3-run deficits in separate postseason elimination games and win both.
The team that won’t go away is on to the NLCS.
Tonight’s game has been called. Obviously. The Nats have confirmed a shooting outside the third base gate. No more baseball tonight, as everyone’s safety takes priority. Hope everyone is ok. We’ll talk to you here from Nats Park tomorrow.
My favorite video from last night. If this doesn’t sum up the 2019 Nationals - Stephen Strasburg, of all people, dancing arm in arm with Gerardo Parra - then I don’t know what does.
Michael A. Taylor has cleared waivers & elected free agency. He came a long way with the Nats. Was drafted as a SS. Had some struggles. But also had some enormous moments. The grand slam in NLDS Game 4. Hit .333 w/ 2 HR (1 in the WS) last October. Great dude. Best of luck to him.
Watch what Trey Mancini is doing, and realize that less than a year ago, he had a port in his chest and was receiving chemotherapy treatments. The guy is amazing.
Also, happy to let everyone know I’ll be back for another season in 2018. This will be five years as a member of Nats broadcasts on MASN, something I’m very proud of. Can’t wait!!
Can’t tell you how much I loved that livestream. We raised over $200,000 for
@prosforheroes
, had a ton of laughs and got to hear from the players, coaches and GM who won the World Series as they all watched it back. All of it was amazing, and I thank everyone for watching.
Today will mark Max Scherzer’s 199th start as a National, including the postseason. In his seven years here, he’s delivered countless memorable moments. Who knows what the future holds, or how long Max will pitch today. But enjoy this one today, Nats fans.
Juan Soto missed two weeks of summer camp. Then sat in his apartment for 10 days after what the Nats think was a false-positive COVID test.
He is hitting .400. He has 4 HRs and 9 RBI in 7 games. I have no words for what he’s doing.
The Nats have won six of their last eight, they’ve won three in a row over playoff teams, and outscored the Mets and Cardinals 20-2 in those three wins. This club is playing solid, exciting, clean baseball right now, and it’s fun to watch.
The Nats make it official: They’ve signed Stephen Strasburg to a seven-year contract. This makes it very possible the former No. 1 overall pick back in 2009 and 2019 World Series MVP will play his entire career in a Nationals uniform.
Stephen Strasburg just got ejected for arguing balls and strikes while watching the game from the additional “dugout” area in the stands. He tips his cap on his way out. Incredible.
Ryan Zimmerman retiring isn’t a surprise. Game 162 of 2021 sure felt like a send-off. But I can’t wrap my mind around what the Nats will look like without him. A great player. A great guy. A steady presence for teammates, fans, media. Can’t ask for much more from a franchise icon
As Bob just mentioned on-air, I’ll be filling in for him doing play-by-play for a handful of games starting Tuesday against the Blue Jays. Bob’s a legend and I have enormous shoes to fill, but I couldn’t possibly be more excited.
Months ago, Nats offered Bryce a reported 10 for $300 million. My middle-school level math tells me that’s $30 mil/year. Phillies give him 13 for $330 million - $25.4 mil/year. A long winter of negotiating got Bryce a few more years, but a lower AAV than the Nats’ initial offer.
Guts. Intestinal fortitude. Onions. Whatever you wanna call it. Max Scherzer pitched with that and nearly that alone tonight. Not his sharpest outing, by any means. But that right there is an ace being an ace.
Now that’s how you start a series.
Nats win 2-0. They’re up 1-0 in the NLCS.
2nd shutout in Nats postseason history. 3rd one-hitter in NLCS history. What a night for the ballclub.
Nats win. They’re 4-0 in elimination games this postseason. Stephen Strasburg is 5-0 this postseason. The Nats have fought back - yet again - and there will be a World Series Game 7 tomorrow night.
Flip over to MASN for our postgame show. So much to recap. Let’s have some fun!!
The Nats have just set a team record for runs in a game, with 24 tonight against the Mets. That tops last year, when they scored 23...against the Mets.
Cannot tell you how excited I am to be moving into a new role as host of MASN’s Nats Xtra pre- and postgame shows. I’m going to miss being so close to the dugout and traveling, but am thrilled to have an expanded opportunity to discuss the game on a daily basis.
This is what makes it all the more of an embarrassing call. It was never a strike. Never at any point. Run-back fastball from 10 inches off the plate to 5 inches off the plate.
Caught up with Sean Doolittle today in his return to Nats Park. I showed him the new Champions Club setup with the Commissioner’s Trophy & a mural that features a shot of him airborne after the final out of NLDS Game 5. His reaction was awesome. Full video coming soon
@Nationals
One final thought for the night: Legends are born on a stage like this. Strasburg. Rendon. Soto. Davey. More.
This is what they play/manage/coach for. And they’re one win away.
After weeks of huddling & deciding how they were going to handle their apology, THIS is what the Astros came up with??? A canned, generic, 20-second statement from Bregman & Altuve w/ zero details & no real acknowledgment of the impact their actions had on the game of baseball???
Can’t make this stuff up. Gerardo Parra pinch hits in the 7th, Nats Park gets to do Baby Shark for the first time since Game 5 of the World Series, and then Parra ropes a double into the left field corner.
Maybe lost in all the mayhem:
The Nats are 16-2 in their last 18 games. They’ve never had a better 18-game span in their team history. And it’s come leading up to, and through, the postseason.
Talk about peaking at the right time!
Anthony Rendon and Victor Robles have both been named finalists for Gold Gloves, and they both deserve to win.
But the fact that Juan Soto was also nominated, given that he had played SEVEN GAMES in left field as a professional prior to his MLB debut last year, is amazing.
The Nats’ World Series parade will be aired tomorrow, starting at 2pm, on MASN. Will also be streaming on . Bob, FP, Bo, Alex and myself will have full coverage of the parade itself and the rally happening afterwards. It’s going to be beautiful chaos.
What Patrick Corbin did tonight has been nothing short of miraculous. A day after one of his best friends shockingly and tragically passed away, Corbin donned Tyler Skaggs’ jersey number and delivered seven innings of one-run ball. Truly amazing.
