@Antje19777 An old time mechanical translator and interpreter. You talk in the top in Swedish, say. Or Chinese. Where it says"8," and then you turn the crank and the words come out of the opening on the left. In English. Provided you clamp it FIRMLY to your desk.

As we seldom tire of telling people, we were there, and still remember threading our way through the huge crowed and hearing John Lewis speak. It was before we joined the Post, and we were on a very, very long lunch break on a very very hot day.

We're 10 days from a big newspaper anniversary. Not the date of the Watergate breakin, but the date( june 18, 1972) of Post's FIRST STORY on it. Here's last two paragraphs, including names of those who helped on it. Note name of current Twitter user, 2 lines from very bottom.

More on why gyro, the sandwich, is YEER-ro.Yes, the first letter IS the Greek letter gamma. BUT gamma is NOT always pronounced like the hard “g” in go! It can be a VOICED PALATAL FRICATIVE! depending on the letter that follows. No further on fricatives for NOW. Maybe later.

I'm resending the John Lennon story from 40 years ago, on the grounds of easier reading. An inference that newspaper readers may make is that deadlines were later in 1980. We printed more papers, and the presses kept running longer. So we made A1 altho it happened around 11 p.m
