@kirstyjean My sister then my mum died of cancer about 18 months apart… this was several years ago now. Grief is a ton of work. It means paid work suffers for a while. Be easy on yourself— it gets better with time ❤️❤️❤️

In cooperatively breeding birds, having kin as neighbours leads to larger overlap in territory and shorter territorial conflicts. Important because (as we show) territorial conflict is costly! @mandy_ridley @ElizabethMWiley
Our new paper is out! Using 8 years of data on intergroup conflict in 16 groups, we show conflict is costly (weight gain 3x higher on days with no conflict) and kin tolerance - territorial overlap 4x greater with kin and less aggression @martha_flower
