By far the most influential artist in NYC right now is the guy who draws these BAD LUCK SPOTS, which no one wants to step on, all over Washington Square, altering the walking patterns of TENS OF THOUSANDS every day This is what true social practice art looks like

I asked my 15-year-old to run through ChatGPT a bunch of take-home essay questions I asked my students this year. Initially, it seemed like I could continue the way I do things. Then my daughter refined the inputs. Now I see that I need to change course.

With the death of Vice, we can confidently say Millennial Media is crumbling. The old model for online content is simply not working. Yet somehow I just created a niche print magazine that is both intellectually serious and profitable. How? Here are 5 principles for creators.

This writer simply hates art and artists. Art has been so fully subsumed by society, we have become so convinced that it is but a pleasant thing you do in between macchiato and a healthy brisk walk, that we have forgotten that it is the rightful province of obsessives and madmen

Event production is harder than most people realize. You need to book the venue. You need it to get big. And then when it gets big, you kind of wish it hadn’t gotten so big. Requires a pragmatist approach. For this reason I would’ve recommended a William James egirl party
I'd bet $10,000 that the "hegelian egirls" did not in fact cancel their party because St Joseph's/St Theresa's backed out after receiving violent threats I would bet this because I called and they said not only did they receive no threats, no event was scheduled for tomorrow

It's an exciting time for littérateurs. No one knows what to read or why. Legacy institutions, which used to to guide us, die from insularity and fear of thoughtcrime. But with their death we lose our last link to a real intellectual tradition. Now we start again from scratch.

@Plinz @Grimezsz Art and "output of consciousness" are not synonyms. Art is a particular ritual—our last link with transcendence It's possible that AI degrades human consciousness to the point that art is no longer made At which point we'll deserve the apocalypse that makes art possible again

I can never believe when people say it's a sad time for writing, books, ideas, etc. The economy of independent, genuinely provocative, and elite-quality writers/artists, books, and ideas is now so large I can hardly keep up with it. When I first left academia to pursue this

This doesn’t do justice to how great the reading was last night, but more pics coming soon. It was a packed house filled with the most stylish and discerning people I know—all there to support the Mars Review of Books. If you couldn’t make it last night, a great way to support
