I'm excited to announce a new decompilation control flow structuring algorithm, SAILR, which is the first to precisely revert compiler optimizations in decompilation. Find out how in our USENIX 2024 paper: Code, info, and links in the šŸ§µ

Some ongoing conversations on HN, mostly on AI's future in (replacing?) decompilers: I maintain my earlier status of skeptical of full-replacement soon but hopeful of pinpointed uses now.

@REverseConf Everything in this talk is open-source, from our algorithms to the very decompiler we made to handle these optimizations: Try it out, and come with fun questions about decompilation :).

@gf_256 @psifertex I think itā€™s not that C is the holy grail, itā€™s just state of the art for the field. How can you run a marathon if you canā€™t even walk yet? In many ways, I think as we solve more of the problems existent in C, higher level languages will be more approachable.

@psifertex Whoever, exploiters seem to care about fidelity. While reversers care most about conciseness. I think these goals really change what metrics are the most important for improving decompilation. Ideally, the best decompiler can do all of the above :)
