This is Sophie. She has a classic case of dandelion toes, a rare condition caused by running through fields of dandelions. Luckily it is completely harmless and ridiculously cute. 14/10
Every musician you love that isn't independently wealthy, all their crew, everyone that records those beautiful records, all the independent record stores, the small labels are all in jeopardy.
in the streaming era the fact that you can't click on a song and see who played on it, who wrote it, who engineered it, who produced it, etc and then click on their name and see all their work is just D-U-M-B.
Musicians are already fucked right now but the death of USPS would be devastating to independent artists and labels. I don’t know how anything survives if that happens.
Older women coming to the conversation with "sounds like a bunch of my formative sexual experiences/what's the big deal" are not helping. It sounds like mine too but fuck I wouldn't wish those experiences on anyone.
I'm over cynicism as a shield. I'm over being around people that think showing signs of emotion is gauche. I want to care and I want to be with other people that care.
@a_briae
I fired mine last June for suggesting doctors were lying about covid deaths for money. Sometimes it just needs to be done. I mean, how can you trust anything after that?
HEYYYYY, writers/editors/artists/music industry professionals. I am restarting Watt shortly. HMU if you want to write about music, the music industry, music tech, etc.
Happy 37 Beauty and the Beat!
Released July 8, 1981. Certified double platinum in the US, platinum in Canada. WGTB was a certified GOLD single, with sales over 500,000. It spent six weeks at number one. What is YOUR favorite song/ memory of this HISTORY making album?
the house next door is for sale and I've set up my drum set in the garage for whenever I see someone I absolutely do not want to live next door to (punisher bumper sticker, off leash dog guy, etc) checking it out.
i once thought twitter was the closest form of global consciousness.
now it seems the corporate ai models have become that. they have far more access to public and private thoughts and questions.
my tips from a lifetime working in music:
1) keep pushing through rejection. there will always be rejection.
2) don't compare yourself to anyone else.
3) be kind. you never know where you'll met again.
It should be enough that you are human to feel empathy for others. You shouldn’t need to be a father of a daughter to think about the patriarchy or be a parent to understand that what ICE is doing to those children is abuse.
Thirty years ago today Nirvana, Mudhoney, and
@theebikinikill
played at the Paramount in Seattle. I remember vividly jumping up and down on the seats yelling "that's my sister!"
Fuck fentanyl. Also fuck the reality where musicians have to tour endlessly to support themselves and their bandmates. We need a healthier way to do this.
I have been informed that during tomorrow’s floor session there will be a motion to either censure or expel me.
I've also been told I'll get a chance to speak. I will do as I have always done—rise on behalf of my constituents, in defense of my community, & for democracy itself.
you may be pissed at all the calls/texts/emails but know that I am STILL finding undecideds in swing states, people who don't know where to vote, have lost their ballots, or who can't figure out a ride tomorrow.
eddie vedder once introduced me to pete townshend as maggie, a punk. pete pulled out a box set he had purchased that day from behind his chair and we chatted about subway sect.
Whenever people tell me you have to live in either nyc or la to work in the music industry I wonder how they perceive my ability to have done just that, for 25+ years.
it's cool that we're going to be gerrymandered into fascism while people can't be bothered to wear a piece of cloth on their face to protect their neighbors.
what a time to be alive.
I've spent all morning answering emails and I still have hundreds of unread emails from artists & labels supporting
#NetNeutrality
in my in box right now. It's so incredible to see this outpouring.
Also, GWAR just signed on.
I mean, if you don't already understand that at least 90% of the best writing about music and culture right now ain't being done by white dudes then I don't know what to tell you.
@KamalaHarris
Because black lives matter, climate change is real, qualified immunity needs to end, healthcare is a right, masks work. Because facts and science matter, so does caring for your neighbors.
I'm sobbing reading this. I know way too many people who've passed from their alcoholism and more that are on their way. The only thing musicians are really guaranteed in this business are drink tickets.
The number of young people who die from alcohol-related liver disease has nearly tripled since 1999. This addiction epidemic is rarely talked about (alcohol is legal! It's fun! Most people can drink without problems!) but it kills more people than opiates.
To the overseas folks who find watching New Zealand’s Covid-19 response encouraging, Kia Ora. It’s Day 7 of lockdown. In the past 1 week, genomic sequencing has traced the outbreak to single person who went thru MIQ on 7th August.
We have stopped 107 chains of transmission /1
Finally heard back from my county’s election commission about being a poll worker. They said they got 1100 inquiries, they usually get 150. It’s a pandemic. Something is happening.
So, for the record: I run a nonprofit, a record label, and a publication. I'm in several bands, DJ, have a radio show, and now I consult for labels & bands. This is the life I always wanted.
Wrapping up six weeks of volunteering right now. It’s safe to say I sent over a hundred thousand texts. I’m scared but hopeful and I know the work, whatever happens, is just beginning. ✌️

I saw Patti Smith play a show in early 2016. She talked about how important it was to celebrate and live your life in the midst of the darkness that was to come. I think about it nearly every day. Thank you, Patti and Happy Birthday.
BREAKING: Donald Trump, who tried to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election and inspired a deadly riot at the Capitol in a desperate attempt to keep himself in power, has filed to run for president again in 2024.
