I sadly just do not see welfare reform or change- the majority of all monies- all major tracks and sales companies all goes to TAA, which does great work FOR established 501-C’s BUT leaves too many horses at auctions or kill pens w people that can’t afford it rescuing them- I’ve communicated this over and over w Repole representatives. ALL horses that race need aftercare not just those that have affluent caring owners.

@GrahamMotion Thank you for your words, having lost my dad and brother in a plane crash, and relating to this tragedy for the families, ALL that matters is empathy and prayers for them, not politics

This is Shacks Way that raced at Remington on 9-5-24 - this is the same horse 129 days after his last race. Nobody knows yet who or how this happened. He was saved from certain death by @TheBridgeSanct1 and @C2RacingStable, neither made one cent off his 214,717 in earnings. He is NOT alone as so many tbs off the track meet this same fate. As industry leaders fight for control, and claim we are dealing with horse welfare - one must ask and agree- we have to do better starting w education on those licensed on rehoming “ your” horses no longer wanted.
It’s hard to fathom how anyone could do this to an animal. This big boy was so happy for the fresh water, hay and warm blanket. He’s safe tonight thanks to a lot of you and we’re beyond grateful. It’s going to be a long road but we’re committed to him. He looks pretty snazzy in his new blanket, huh? #rescue #safe #ottb #Thoroughbred #Texas #ForgottenToForever

When a horse is running at a track - Remington in Nov - and ends up like this 2 months later, along with burning his tattoo off - doesn’t this warrant a much bigger investigation by “ those in power” in lieu of those that rescued him #shacksway???
When will it stop? When? This guy was winning at Oaklawn last year for $25 k claiming. He's got screws in his ankle, and essentially left for dead.

Think it was just yesterday - after reading @flysofree article - my thoughts were as to the problems of all rescue money going to “established” organizations yet so many horses falling into an abyss- tragic and so sad

“We talk about aftercare and pretend the kill pens aren’t there “ - thank you @flysofree for no truer words spoken as to welfare - the industry is not addressing those that continue to get rid of their horses the “ easy uneducated way” and too many horses pay the price - wake up @hisa_us , @jockeyclub @nationalhbpa

Appreciate @flysofree exceptional series on the ongoing travesty of bail/kill pens. For years, it continues and it is the saddest plight for racehorses. The industry continues to collect monies at sales, racetracks, all going to the same organizations, which do great work for those that do responsibly retire their horses. BUT the industry does nothing nor collect money for the hundreds of thrown away broodmares or the horses, discarded like trash by their connectionis, at auctions for kill buyers. Talk does nothing until this industry, the jockey club, HBPA HISA, those in "power" start to take punitive action against those that knowingly discard horses like trash, knowing where they will end up and simply not caring. They have no place in horse racing. We know who they are, report it and always get the same answer, "there is nothing they can do." Does that even make sense in a supposed regulated industry?
It seems the bail pen economy is here to stay; how can the Thoroughbred industry keep its horses out of the spin cycle? Read more:

I truly hope everyone connected with horses, particularly Tbs, reads this article- its so important in the world of social media and "kill pens"- another brilliant piece by @flysofree
Social media is littered with posts about horses who are supposedly about to be exported and rendered for meat, if the public doesn't pay the owner's "bail" price. What's going on here? Read more:

With what at times, seems like a climate of negativity, Want to give @OaklawnRacing my appreciation for such a professional staff and one of the most user friendly racetracks I have dealt with- particularly Taylor in licensing and Lori, Horsemens bookeeper- You all make it such a pleasure - thank you !
