Look, the guy’s just wrong. I don’t know how to put it more clearly than that. He is wrong. His biblical interpretation is wrong. His theology is wrong. His framework is wrong. He’s wrong. Doesn’t matter if the idea is popular. Popular doesn’t mean right. Also, not to put too fine a point on it, not believing what everyone else believes is kind of baked in the cake here. It’s a core part of our theology. All the way from Joseph Smith’s first prayer to our most sacred ordinances. But if you want to put this in a framework, you can think of it this way. Salvation includes resurrection and the overcoming of physical death. Everyone gets that. With exceptions too few to worry about, everyone gets to a kingdom of glory. Exaltation, however, requires faith, repentance, baptism, other ordinances, and enduring to the end.

@wndyW1LL0w I would do that. I don’t necessarily feel comfortable crunching in somebody else’s ears in their headset.

I had the thought today to go and find a particular bit of Paul's writing. 1 Cor 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. Charity is the opposite of contention. It is a real concern for the wellbeing of others. It prevents us from saying things that serve our own egos. We may be well-spoken and well-reasoned. We may be correct in our facts. But if we aren't engaging with real love and consideration, then our impact is minimized, and as another verse puts it, "...the heavens withdraw themselves; the Spirit of the Lord is grieved; and when it is withdrawn, Amen to the priesthood or the authority of that man." (D&C 121:37) There have been plenty of times when, looking back, in l'esprit d'escalier, I've thought of a perfect comeback, a winning argument, a final word that would have put someone back on their heels. And today I'm grateful that I didn't say the thing, that I didn't press the argument, that I didn't deliver the blow. While they would have been very satisfying to the ego, none of them would have been done in love. None of them would have made peace.

@BradRTorgersen I remember that awards ceremony very well. “Clapping is appropriate, booing is not.”

@SenorVito9 Keep a close eye on your daughter's friends, and encourage her to have a friend a) that's someone she looks up to and b) that is active.
