@jaredlholt I think that a lot of folks outside our circle of researchers who spend all day with this material don't quite grasp just how important Tarrant was to the rest of the movement. Not trying to be pretentious and say we're the gatekeepers of information, but it's all too familiar.

I spoke with @daithaigilbert for a recent WIRED article about the J6 pardons. One of my main concerns is the possibility of groups like the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys coming back stronger than they were after J6.

I had the pleasure of working with @Jose_Pagliery and @JohnSewardDC for some of the analysis and commentary on this awesome article about the potential dangers of J6 pardons. @NOTUSreports continues to do great work!
NOTUS wrote letters to dozens of J6 inmates asking about their experience behind bars and any hope that Trump might commute their sentences. Only one responded. @Jose_Pagliery and @JohnSewardDC report:

I want to be absolutely clear when I say this: Congress needs to either pass legislation mandating standardized geofencing software for all drones sold in the US or seriously consider banning imports of DJI drones. The threat to national security is evident.
Chinese drone manufacturer DJI, the world’s leading producer of consumer drones, has announced it will be removing its geofencing system in the US. Some shit you should know before you read: DJI’s geofencing program, introduced in 2013 as part of its Geospatial Environment Online system, was designed to automatically prevent drones from flying in restricted or high-risk areas by using GPS data and mapping technology. This system provided real-time airspace information and imposed “No-Fly Zones,” where drones were physically unable to take off or enter restricted zones without special authorization. These locations included airports, US military bases, power plants, national landmarks like the White House, and sites under Temporary Flight Restrictions (usually issued when the President is traveling or during public emergencies). What’s going on now: In an announcement, DJI revealed that it is removing its geofencing system in the US and replacing it with a new approach that relies on “Enhanced Warning Zones,” where operators will receive in-app alerts instead of facing automatic flight restrictions. The company said this change was to “place control back in the hands of the drone operators.” DJI added, “Global regulations and user awareness have evolved significantly.” This all comes as US lawmakers have continued to scrutinize DJI, with some labeling it a “Chinese Military Company” and proposing restrictions that could lead to a ban on its drone imports. The US government has already blocked certain DJI products, citing national security concerns. Amid this scrutiny, speculation has emerged that DJI’s removal of geofencing restrictions is a retaliatory move against these actions. In its announcement, DJI addressed this, saying, “To suggest that this update is linked to the current political environment in the US is not only false but also dangerous.” Notably, geofencing from DJI is still in place in China (per Hunterbrook)

I was fortunate enough to share my thoughts with @cjoyner about how the extremism landscape is likely to change with the incoming administration.
