There were many moving moments today for a Christian in the UK, but for me it was committing 'our sister, Elizabeth' to the Lord. It was as it should be.

I cried teaching Christology this time. I don't always. But sometimes teaching on the divine Son who becomes fully and truly human just undoes you.

The longer I'm in pastoral ministry, the more I realize how vulnerable and fragile we all are. We don't need authoritarian leaders. We need compassionate and wise shepherds.

My husband, brought up as a good evangelical, daily quiet times, memorizing scripture from a boy, always loved the Bible, said this this morning at the age of 62: Gosh my life would have been different if someone had taught me to read scripture properly when I was young.

It's amazing that the peace of God 'guards' and 'protects' both our hearts and our minds. I know many people right now whose hearts and minds need guarding and protecting.

Just a reminder - a 'staycation' is when you have your holiday while staying in your own home, not when you have a holiday in your own country. That's just a holiday. Be nice if we could get that straight.

We are at a threshold moment. My husband was ordained into the Anglican church in 1988. We met in 1989 & married in 1990. I became a lay minister in 1993. We ministered happily together in London, Harare, & Sheffield. But in 2003 God began to unsettle us deeply about church.

I've always found it strange that evangelical Christian parents think that their children having a faith in Jesus is either a) their sole responsibility and/or b) to their credit. It's neither. If I could release people from both, I would.

Today my sweet, wonderful mother in law left us to be with Jesus - the last of our parents. We cried & laughed (& had cloth napkins in napkin rings at dinner in honour of the older generation). Thank God for them all who gave us so much - for generations to come.

Somebody has asked me about books on preaching written by women. I think my Twitter world will know more than I do. Thanks in advance!
