Countryside Games 🌾
In 2024, there will be 29 NPB games played outside of a team’s home ballpark.
This is done so that every part of the country gets to experience a big-league game and connect with fanbases across Japan.
This is something MLB should look to implement imo.

Ace Number ♠️
18 is a special number in NPB, as it’s often reserved for the team’s best pitcher.
All-time greats like Masahiro Tanaka, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Yoshinobu Yamamoto have worn it, building on it’s legacy.
The Yankees reportedly reserved it when recruiting Yamamoto.

Cheering Sections 📣
Called the “ouendan”, you can find these cheering sections in dedicated outfield seats, with the home fans usually sitting in RF while the visitors sit in LF.
If you want to watch a game in Japan, i highly recommend sitting here, it’s very fun!

Unlike the bullpen jog we have gotten used to in MLB, bullpen cars can be seen on a few NPB ballparks.
It’s surprising that Manfred hasn’t implemented this yet, think of the few seconds it could save!

In NPB, teams are mostly owned by companies, and teams incorporate the companies name as their own.
The goal to own a team isn’t to make profit, but instead to create goodwill and market themselves.
Personally i can’t wait to see the Seattle Amazon Mariners.

Ties are objectively not fun. Why does NPB have them?
In the regular season, if the teams are tied at the end of 12 innings, it’s over.
This rule is in place so people can catch the train back home as they usually stop running at midnight.
Playoff ties also exist…

Draft Format 📨
The NPB Draft's first round is not by W-L record like in America, instead teams simultaneously pick the player they want.
If multiple teams want the same player, it’s decided by a lottery, and if you lose you have to resubmit.
Can’t get more exciting than that.

Dickerson put up a impressive .947 OPS for the SF Giants in 2020 but hasn’t played affiliated ball since 2022.

A dying art in America, sac bunting is still popular in Japan, as NPB teams do it about 3x more often than MLB in just a 1/3 of the games.
