This conflict will never be over as long as Hamas have the power to indoctrinate the children of Gaza that the Jews have no place in the Holy Land. I agree with a lot of what @SigridKaag says in this segment. However, the failure of the UN throughout the war, and still today, to identify Hamas as THE sticking point of progress for the people of Gaza, created the space for Trumps “plan”.

Sadly this is the official position among so many Palestinian spokespeople across their political spectrum. They see no fault, no remorse, and show no humanity. This is why @afalkhatib is such a unique voice. If you can’t identify a problem, you’re never going to find the solution.

Hey Jon, long time. Two intertwined questions. First of all, and most importantly, Hamas' support stems from the false prevailing narrative that the State of Israel and the Jewish return to the historic homeland is a temporary endeavor and, therefore, Israel can be (must be?) defeated and expelled. Hamas (and others) has cultivated this theme and public sentiment. Secondly, of course Israeli leaders from across the political spectrum have failed to place an alternate vision of peace. But I believe this is secondary as it takes two to tango. In Israel today, to talk of a two-state solution is akin to saying let's set the date for the next "October 7".

Despite the immense pain we have endured sine October 7, the words of Israel's declaration of independence are still relevant today: "WE EXTEND our hand to all neighboring states and their peoples in an offer of peace and good neighborliness, and appeal to them to establish bonds of cooperation and mutual help with the sovereign Jewish people settled in its own land."
