I saw Metrorail’s signal system. It’s so old it’s time to start worrying about availability of parts. Other systems worldwide are moving to digital systems. But the capital cost to modernize is in the billions. Our region needs a plan to fund this over some time period.

Program this in your phone.

Our streets are choked with traffic.
They are red with our blood, & our children’s blood.
I walked 6 blocks downtown yesterday, lost count of the # of giant cars that tried to run me over.
I don’t want a new toy. I want my city, the heart of my region, to live.
Congestion pricing is the shiny ball pseudo new urbanists cannot look away from.
Even tho we already: raise nearly 1bil over 4yrs w/traffic cameras, charge 18% private prking tax dedicated to METRO, have dynamic pricing for meters and vision zero to slow traffic.

Let’s be clear. First, this is not a 70% reduction in fare evasion. It’s a 70% reduction in the RATE of evasion. Some of this likely from non-tap converting to tap, but also some non-tap converting to non-ride.
In short, no one should expect $40m increase in revenue from this.
And here are the numbers that Metro just released on fare evasion reduction with the installation of these new faregates. A 70 to almost 85 percent reduction in fare evasion!

Mazza Gallerie in Friendship Heights was sold for $38 million at a foreclosure auction on Friday.
Anchor store Neiman Marcus had announced this month it will close for good. 2 1/2 years ago, Mazza Gallerie was sold in 2017 for $78 million.

The replies in this thread from all across the political spectrum about how 150 sq ft per person is inhuman are telling on themselves super loud that they don’t know that’s how the vast majority of the world, including many happy and comfortable people, live.
One of the biggest drivers of unaffordability is minimum unit sizes.
A 100-150sf SRO can comfortably fit all of one's needs (bed, kitchenette, bathroom, even a desk!). When we mandate a 400sf minimum, a common threshold, we're getting 3-4x less homes in the same amount of space!
