Er is een vrouw, regelmatig met een rode jas aan, die in haar eentje een A4 met deze tekst omhoog houdt. Ze zegt niets, ze is rustig, ze reageert niet op wat er om haar heen gebeurt. Ze toont alleen de tekst. Als je filmpjes ziet waarin zij te zien is bij demonstraties, moet ze steevast beschermd worden door politiemensen die een cirkel om haar heen vormen. 'Activisme in de kunsten' was vandaag een onderwerp in de schilderles. Terwijl ik dit beeld schilderde, ondervond ik hoezeer kunst (mij) kan raken. En vroeg ik me af hoe we in een tijd terecht zijn gekomen dat de tekst die deze vrouw omhoog houdt, niet voor elk levend wezen vanzelfsprekend is. Maar misschien houden de kunsten me vandaag ook de realiteit voor en heeft de tijd dat dat wél vanzelfsprekend was, nooit bestaan. #kunst #waardevankunst #waardevanhetleven
