I was invited to inaugurate E&Y Global Delivery Services’ first office in Coimbatore, and second in Tamil Nadu. As someone who first interacted professionally with E&Y 25 years ago in New York, and as someone who set up and ran one of the world’s most advanced GCCs in Mumbai ~20 years ago (before they were called GCCs), I was happy to reconnect with E&Y and speak on the journey and future of GCCs and innovation hubs, and of the need to design and structure GCC roles to be more well-rounded and on-par with their counterparts in New York or London - as opposed to creating multiple groups of siloed specialists in niche areas. I also spoke at length about the current era in the global economy - that of Indian human capital . India has moved beyond being just a technical support system—we are now delivering cutting-edge innovation, engineering, and R&D. Over the next two decades, India’s workforce will be a major driver in the global economy, and foreign companies will increasingly be looking to leverage our exceptional talent pool right here in India – as cross-border mobility of labour becomes increasingly constrained by sociopolitical trends, even while high-speed internet connectivity becomes ubiquitous. Tamil Nadu, the source of roughly 20% of India’s technical workforce, is at the leading edge of this wave. This is reflected in our thriving IT ecosystem and the large Tamil expatriate diaspora driving innovation globally. It has resulted in exponential expansion of this sector within TN over the last few years since the Pandemic - a testament to our state’s transformation into a global talent powerhouse, under the leadership of our leader @mkstalin. Make no mistake – this is almost purely talent-seeking growth, not subsidy-incentivized growth as in other places and cases. This wave will not remain confined to Chennai but will expand through so-called Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, all the way to every corner of the state. Of E&Y GDS’s 74,000 employees worldwide, roughly 5% are already based in Tamil Nadu now, and this ratio will grow substantially in the next few years. I have requested E&Y to opt for Madurai as their next location in Tamil Nadu, which they have graciously agreed to consider.

@_amitbehere There is 1 example that bucks the trend. Israel is a LOT more religious today than say in 1967 & it is a lot more prosperous as well. But they have this unique system of simultaneously cosseting & containing the religious extreme right. Will be ruinous ultimately though
