I'm SO excited to announce that you can now order my chapbook, Personal Injury!!!!!!
thank you so much to everyone who made this possible, especially to
@ChestnutReview
💞🥳
holy shit. a yr ago I lost my publishing job in nyc. it was a total blindside & for months I felt like a worthless failure. but after I was fired I started getting accepted to MFA programs. now I’m at LSU fully funded + I’m EIC of something? nobody’s assistant anymore babe!!! 🥲
I came back to twitter in a big way during 2020, & immediately connected with so many of you here on lit twit. I’ve felt so held & supported by you while I worked for years to make this dream a reality.
my debut poetry chapbook is officially forthcoming w/
@ChestnutReview
😭
my undergrad poetry students rly want a presentation on how to break into publishing, one even has a chapbook, but they know zero about this hellscape we call po-biz. LOL.
so like, what would you say to them? aside from explaining submittable & giving a few mag recs
this is sad but
@BOAAT_PRESS
appears to have vanished. boaat was a dream journal for a long time but it’s extremely unethical to ghost your contributors, even your BOOK PRIZE winners, holding their copies in limbo, & still be bold enough to have a public facing twitter. explain?
the faces you’ll make when you ~finally~ receive the offer call. I’ve been offered 1 of 6 spots in LSU’s fully funded MFA program. 😭😭😭😭
remember how I’m from the south? IM COMING BACK BAYBEEEE 🤠
I’ve legit had fever dreams about making this tweet—I GOT MY FIRST FICTION ACCEPTANCE?? from
@MaudlinHouse
! & the story is coming out SOON?! I’m in disbelief 🤩🥸✈️

well, shit. I'm already obsessed w/ this book.

I firmly believe that if we don’t share our small wins as writers, we will descend into madness. so here’s a small win I’m proud of!
my intrepid chap Personal Injury made it to the final 20 in
@VariantLit
’s open reading period! this is the farthest I’ve made it so far. onward!
weird part of AWP as an unknown writer is the sheer imposter syndrome you get recognizing your favs, knowing instantly that no one recognizes you back, & if they do it’s bc of thin parasocial connection. I met many kind folks, but some were super standoffish, which was a bummer!
all these "police-involved shooting" headlines are doing rhetorical gymnastics to avoid saying the truth: an officer fired 7 bullets into an unarmed man's BACK, in front of his young children. TELL THE TRUTH.
✅ final reading as an mfa candidate
ty,
@CarolynHembree

this poem marks a shift in my craft just as it marked a big shift in my real life. I’m so grateful it’s getting this love.

I went to the doctor about a compulsion I suffer from that makes me v ashamed. it was rly, rly hard to face a doctor's scrutiny. idk why I'm putting it here. I guess bc although I feel shame, finally going to a doctor is a huge step & I should be proud.
dumbfounded & grateful to feel seen by so many writers I admire. you work on a book & then it’s over & you dk how it’ll be received. y’all make me feel love, yall make me feel real! thank you.
