Rereading Soseki's Kokoro up till 1.30 in the morning, 1 Jan 2024 & it still affected me like the first time. The sadness lingers, the story stayed in my heart & mind. The kind of emotion that will make u choked up in tears, the one that slowly made u feel seen & heartbroken🥺

Japanese literature and their obsession with cats🐈. Its interesting to see how cats are such prominent characters in these novels with some of them have their own voices, narrating the story. I read a short story Town of Cats by Haruki Murakami & got inspired to do this post✨️
Slice of life and healing Japanese Literature to be released in 2024. Sometimes all we need in this chaotic, hard world is the soft touch and comforting books that tell us its okay. These kind of books brought a sense of belonging and familiarity which I love

Japanese authors excelled in portraying human darkness in their stories. They are the master of pyschological thrillers which questions the grey area of human's behaviours. Both Keigo and Natsuo Kirino dealt with character's depth, Kanae & Fuminori excelled in human's psyche
You cannot deny that Japanese Lits with cats 🐈 on it made the covers 10 times cuter 💖. Besides adorable (also some weird one, looking at u Murakami), cats as central characters or as sidekicks in books make a heartwarming & cozy stories. Japanese lits & cats are inseparable🥺

More disturbing & dark book recs as suggested from the comments in the previous post. Some underrated & really effed up stories discovered which sparked conversation on how subjective our interpretation on disturbing stories🤯. Absolute banger recs i will say😳

This is why we always said that book review is for the readers & not the authors. I think we should add another one too - not for publisher🙂.
Review is meant to be shared, be it criticsm or praises as reading is a subjective experience so take it as it is or try to improve
How to stay alive in your 20s, Dr Syafiq Sallehin. Im on Chapter 1: Life is suffering and already highlighted so many lines in here.
"Happiness is not a trophy to be won and held on to forever...Happinese is, in fact, fleeting and temporary"
Slice of life seems to be the word associated a lot with Japanese lit but to me is about human connections, the exploration of loneliness, the day to day mundane life, the discussion on societal issues. Its a shame to only put the genre in one box when its so much more
Happy World Books Day✨️. To all of the books I have read, yet to be read & to books that accompanied me throughout the years & books that deserved to be spoken & voices to be heard. So many great books yet so little time ❤️🍉
I always take pictures of books I find interesting or want to get at the bookstore. Its more of a want than a need for now because they are pricey, but I do want to read them someday 🌟

menggambarkan perasaan seorang Oba yang hidupnya kecelaruan & penuh ketakutan. Bila kau tak dapat rasa diri sebagai manusia, hidup kosong bertopengkan badut, buku ni merintih jiwa bagi aku
A reading guide: Izumi Suzuki
Izumi Suzuki is not like any others, she breaks free from the law of scifi making her story solely her own. With astounding ideas coming from an ingenious mind, though sorrowfully a short lived woman, her tales stand the passing of time
A book with the concept of nostalgia & foods with a dash of some detective work to recreate the food of your memories. Its a lighthearted stories with scrumptious description of foods, a bit repetitive but still enjoyable. Coming out this October published by PanMacMillan (left)
Have I told you the greatest masterpiece ever created was Monster by Naoki Urasawa & how I'm obsessed with this series 🥺. Monster singlehandedly won me over by Kenzo Tenma as the most empathic & nuanced character & Johan Liebert, the most complex villain ever
Ifyou love slice of life books, this one is perfect in my humble opinion. It got calming countryside vibe, jazz music, mentions of japanese lit, cat with one eye. Most importantly, its abt family bonding & addressing mental health 🌻
Two Japanese authors that I'm obsessed with currently. I love them immediately after reading their works. They are quite underrated & their books may not be everyone's cup of tea but I love the unique writing style of Mieko Kanai & the themes Izumi Suzuki brought ✨️❤️
The adorableness of these two book covers 🥺🥺. I'm obsessed with cats in Japanese lit, cannot decide which one is cuter 😭. Which cover you like the most - Like for green cover, retweet for blue cover
