Then stop the voucher program - money from rural districts is leaving and leaving our kids behind.
5k scholarship is not going to help a kid from Cooleemee, NC attend a charter/private school.
Why?
More money and resources should be directed to NC classrooms, especially in rural districts.
We can do this by closing loopholes that enable education funds to be used to erect layers of useless bureaucracy at the state level.

I will never forget the way my 5th grade teacher fought back her tears when my classmates wouldn't quiet during a lockdown. It was a drill, but we had no way to know. When the police opened our door to clear us, she screamed in terror.
