Another #LionWatch update – ears! The lion cubs’ little ears have begun to unfold and show more clearly. The cubs continue to nurse and get all of their nutrients from Zari, also resulting in perfectly round and growing kitten bellies.

Introducing Lincoln Park Zoo’s cutest and newest arrival: a baby Grevy’s zebra! 🦓 16-year old Adia gave birth to the healthy girl in the early hours of August 21. The youngster, weighing in at 105 pounds at birth, was able to run an hour later.

We are ready to roar the names of the three male lion cubs: Pesho, Sidai, and Lomelok. The cubs were named in partnership with several Ilchokuti or “lion guardians” who are Maasai community members that work in Tanzania along Lincoln Park Zoo’s partner, @Kope_Lion . #LionWatch

It is with deep sadness that we share that the difficult but responsible decision was made to euthanize 29-year-old female western lowland gorilla Bana. Bana was loved by all, including Lincoln Park Zoo staff, volunteers and visitors alike.

We recently learned about a movie called Gigi & Nate that features a live capuchin monkey. While the movie is inspired by a true story, it is important to separate past events from the current and future wellbeing of primates in the entertainment industry and in the wild. 🧵

Let's talk about dens! In the wild, female lions separate from the pride to give birth in small hidden dens, usually in vegetation, caves, or other secluded areas. This is a natural instinct to protect the cubs.

We are thrilled to announce the birth of a female klipspringer! Klipspringers remain in a quiet, secluded space during the early stages of their life to avoid predators. These photos show the smaller dark privacy shelter inside which the calf spends most of her time.

#LionWatch update - Pregnant lion Zari has been participating in her own healthcare with voluntary ultrasounds. This morning, zoo veterinarians were able to locate at least two cubs! Care staff share that Zari's behavior changes indicate that delivery may not be too far off...

Welcome to the world, Fisher! Born January 26, this youngster is the first pup for both Jersey and Charles, both 8-years old. Unfortunately, Jersey did not display appropriate maternal instincts to care for or protect the pup and human intervention was deemed necessary.

African lion cub Lomelok’s journey continues. The main goal right now is to keep Lomelok comfortable as he slowly gains back his strength and confidence. The first 72 hours post-surgery are intensive and critical and we’re grateful for the outpouring of support.

As we’ve shared, African lion cub Lomelok was born with a spinal issue which causes discomfort and impacts mobility. His care team has continuously monitored him and provided medical support as needed. (1/5)
