16-year old Adia gave birth to the healthy girl in the early hours of August 21. The youngster, weighing in at 105 pounds at birth, was able to run an hour later.

It is with deep sadness that we share that the difficult but responsible decision was made to euthanize 29-year-old female western lowland gorilla Bana. Bana was loved by all, including Lincoln Park Zoo staff, volunteers and visitors alike.

Let's talk about dens! In the wild, female lions separate from the pride to give birth in small hidden dens, usually in vegetation, caves, or other secluded areas. This is a natural instinct to protect the cubs.
