Sharun Thomas was convicted of murder in 1992, but was exonerated in 2017 and paid $4.1M by the city after the court ruled that a potential alibi hadn't been investigated and Thomas was implicated by a pair of informants, one who recanted and said detectives coached him. Note that this happened before Krasner was sworn in Despite being a millionaire, he went back to selling drugs and got his girlfriend's friend to sell cocaine for him. the friend never paid him for the drugs so Thomas killed him in a drive by with the girlfriend in the car, threatening his girlfriend and saying that this was his third murder
