@CathAllen8 @SpringMusgrave Well, I hope and trust that sufficient safeguards will be put in place to prevent such coercion. I will stand by my opinion and am relieved to know that the vote passed.

@SpringMusgrave And that has been / is their choice which is fine. I just want the freedom to be able to make mine - the one where I don't have to find a spare £20,000 to die in another country or horde pills under my pillow in the vague hope that I get the dose right somehow.

@DrBoofle @picturelady1959 I have to put my trust in legal and medical experts to come up with sufficient safeguards to ensure that people won't be cohersed into anything. And yes, I know that nothing is 100% foolproof but that shouldn't be the reason to deny the right to decide to those who want it.

@AnnieWan55261 Well, that may have been your experience, but it certainly hasn't been mine, or of many of my colleagues or friends (quite a few of them with a medical background).

@picturelady1959 @DrBoofle Well, I don't want my last weeks or months on this earth to be dominated by unbearable pain and loss of dignity which in quite a few cases even the best palliative care cannot address. Assisted dying is a choice and I would be very grateful to be allowed to make it.

@sonny_dayton @RachelPipe48842 I'm very sorry for your loss. But to pose a genuine question, was this prolongued suffering his choice or something that you accepted to appease your morality? And why should others suffer in similar circumstances if their only wish is to die?

@DrBoofle I work in adult social care, and have had close family members suffer terribly with terminal illnesses. I absolutely agree it needs proper safeguards put in place first, but there should be dignity in dying, and it should be my choice.

@Live_Die_Well What you want or don't want is irrelevant. I don't want to end my life doubly incontinent in nappies, screaming in agony - no amount of palliative care or religious hand wringing will change that. As it is my body and my life, it should be my choice.

@Steezosaurus @jannott56 @Moor3_D @Otto_English Exactly this! I "love" it when people with zero understanding of Russia's geopolitical aims see fit to call for Ukraine to compromise. Do they really think that Russia will stop there and not go after another of its neighbours, and the one after that?

@Sonny496 @DPJHodges 2 million out of 60,000,000 is the majority now, is it? I'll ask my ten-year-old daughter to explain basic maths to you.
