Our school council members attended the Youth Champion Handover event today with Cllr. Philippa Marsden. This event was attended by Lewis Girls School, Cwm Rhymni and Blackwood Comp. This was an excellent opportunity for our students to meet with Cllr. Marsden.

Congratulations to Emily and Gabriella in Y11. Both girls achieved full marks in their Enterprise & Employability Challenge for Welsh Bacc. Their work was commended by the examination board too! Both girls have received a Head Teacher Award this morning for outstanding efforts!
To complement our purchase of Student Chromebooks across the school, we have also purchased
headphones for all Key Stage 3 and 4 students. This will allow the students to complete online
assessments and conduct online research quickly, easily, and quietly in the classroom! 😍
Lewis Girls' students are celebrating their successes, having secured outstanding A-level results. 86% of students achieved at least 3 A*-C grades, the highest ever. We are immensely proud of them and wish them every success in the future. Mrs Harding and Lewis Girls' School.

School will close to all students from 3pm tomorrow following government advice. Students have been given work to undertake at home, staff will continue to provide lessons and assess work. An overview of schemes of work and e-learning will be available to parents from tomorrow.

Massive thanks to Pupils, Parents and Staff for supporting us raising money for Children in Need. We raised an amazing £1028.18 from non school uniform donations and the "spellathon"!!!

We have 1 positive case of coronavirus and a group of students in 1 year group and students that travel on the Nelson bus have been asked to isolate. There are no other cases, all students will be able to come to school as normal unless they have received a text from the Head.
Year 11 went bag packing in Tesco Ystrad Mynach on Sun Raising funds for the Friends of the new Breast Cancer Unit at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr. Here are our students, and Gemma Davies from Tesco handing the £150 cheque to Emma Wilkins, Fundraising Manager of Breast Services. Well done

Among the students' successes, Aimee-Leigh Jones achieved 4 A* grades, Sophie Kingdon achieved an A* and 3 A grades, Olivia Bishop achieved an A*, 2 A grades, and a B grade, Susannah Barrett achieved 3 A grades and a B grade, and Sophie Cheng achieved 2 A grades and 2 B grades.
We raised an amazing £409.15 for Dementia UK by dressing up for Languages Day, selling french breakfasts and donations through the day. What a Fantastic effort by our Staff, Pupils and Parents!

This week we celebrated World Down's Syndrome Day by wearing colourful, odd or just generally funky socks on Tuesday. Year 7 had a workshop where they learned more about Down's syndrome and what life is like with Down’s syndrome - promoting kindness and inclusion for everybody!
On the 21st October 1966 in Aberfan, a 'spoil tip' from the coal mine collapsed into the village school and local houses. Despite the best efforts of the rescuers (including Len Lewis, our last Chair of Governors), 116 children and 28 adults died. We will remember them today.

Gwent Police are launching a new initiative called Operation Encompass, and will report to Lewis Girls' School before 9am when one of our pupils has been involved in any domestic incident so that the school can act immediately. Attached is a letter for parents and carers.
