@Rebekah60291919 @barbout @AutismActionNet Isn't like what? It was lumped in with Autism because it's a form if Autism.

@QuantumDyn26457 @katiewr31413491 @AutismActionNet Autism isn't caused by brain damage. It's caused by the brain being wired differently.

@QuantumDyn26457 @katiewr31413491 @AutismActionNet No, it's caused by the genes and how our brain is wired from conception. Toxic exposure only worsens behavior. If I have a stomach ache I'm more likely to meltdown. But my stomach ache didn't give me Autism.

@OMG_Mum @AutismActionNet Because our society wasn't designed with us in mind. Because our means of communication is often ignored. Autism is a neurotype. I never said Autistic people don't struggle. But it is not a disease. It is not infectious nor contagious. So calling it an "epidemic" is wrong.

@katiewr31413491 @QuantumDyn26457 @AutismActionNet @katiewr31413491 @QuantumDyn26457, Autism is not a disease. Fear mongering by calling it an "epidemic" does nothing to help those who have higher support needs. We need to focus our effort on pushing for greater public support for disabled people and their families.

@katiewr31413491 @QuantumDyn26457 @AutismActionNet About what? Tell how you know more about my own disability than I do? Your parents started Autism Speaks. Your opinion on Autism is worthless.

@QuantumDyn26457 @AutismActionNet @katiewr31413491 They didn't suddenly get Autism. Indeed it doesn't happen overnight. It's a gradual process. Lack of support relates to quality of life. Eye contact is painful for Autistic people.

@QuantumDyn26457 @AutismActionNet @katiewr31413491 It was "extremely rare" because it was under diagnosed. They didn't even think females or people of color could be Autistic for crying out loud. Autism isn't a disease. So no epidemic. And that's a fact.

@barbout @AutismActionNet The cause is genetics. In terms of individual behavior, sometimes enviornment or diet can play a factor.

@katiewr31413491 @QuantumDyn26457 @AutismActionNet @katiewr31413491 I dont want anything from an organization that compared Autism to cancer and ignored Autistic people for over a decade. Autism Speaks are ableists mascarading as allies.

@barbout @AutismActionNet @barbout I'm more than aware of the struggles with trying to meet a child's high support needs. I am all for improving systems for helping individuals and families. But fear mongering about Autism by treating it like a disease doesn't do that. It only creates misunderstanding.

@QuantumDyn26457 @AutismActionNet @katiewr31413491 @QuantumDyn26457 You not having the courage to show your real name and face on Twitter speaks volumes about your character. You pretending that those with highest support needs represent all Autistic people shows your own prejudice.
