Retired - which means I have more time to pay attention to details. Uranium, commodities, macroeconomics and classic cars. No advice - simply opinions.

@IAEANE Given their capacity factors, the more apt name for renewables is “intermittents” and sometimes: “occasionals.”

@piterloskot82 So, Kz is stacking a higher VAT on top of 2025’s higher Mineral Extraction Tax, and ever-increasing acid expenses not to mention trans-Caspian shipping expenses. ✅

@MJD007 In the autumn of ‘21 the Chinese Govt allocated $440B and mandated 150 reactors be built in 15 years. It’s easier to “get it” and move quickly under those conditions. We need a similar “moon shot” goal.

On the point about the west not investing conversion, ICYMI: the DoE (Dec ‘24) awarded $3.4B to build out western enrichment plants (separate awards for LEU & HALEU) including CONVERSION. The recipients were OranoUSA, UrencoUSA, Centrus, GLE, LIS and General Matter. Orano and Urenco had already committed billions in private capital to expand the western fuel supply chain. Orano’s new plant alone will be the largest industrial investment in the history of Tennessee. Of course GLE & LIS (as well as ASPI) should be able to generate UF6 without the conversion step. Framatome is also planning an advanced fuel facility in WA state. Westinghouse is still toying with reopening conversion at Springfields, UK. Notably Honeywell/Converdyn chose not to apply for a DoE grant. I’m guessing Converdyn is minting money by running 24/7 and do not see it in their best interest to shut down for 6 to 12 months to upgrade (that timeframe supplied by former Converdyn VP, Dustin Garrow.) Sure, it’s a bottleneck that won’t be fixed overnight but I’d bet my life the west is not ever going back to dependence on Rosatom. Cheers.
