There are 160000 lines of assembly (.asm and .S files) in FFmpeg.
Functions mostly implemented in C but with a few assembly overrides for various platforms that they felt could be sped up with assembly.
@tunguz
Canva, supabase, descript, NVDA... Tonnes competing with them remotely... Mostly via really good products.
They are nearing AWS level UX at this stage... just compete with them on UX (anthropic artifacts or perplexity is good examples of competing with them on AI UX).
@JosephJacks_
@durov
You can see he is excited at the level of engineering excellence and value brought to the world by this navy seal level team :D
Love to see it.
Someone needs to tell the French that its actually not possible to unencrypt what they did... And they not going to crack...
@yacineMTB
Lots of people talking about saving Python which is exciting to me.
Almost all my stuff is in Python so I'm all In on other people saving me.
@_emergent_
Man that knows fleeing from tyrants all too well... Hope he is safely released soon/all the best for him and the telegram community.
Crypto community has created all sorts of extremely useful tools for humanity like distributed intelligence/accessibility RNDR/TAO etc...

Claims finance is becoming too complicated/AI will reduce our understanding.
- Doesn't understand what risk is or a sharpe ratio
- YOLOd life savings into single meme coin
- Conflates systemic understanding collapse with personal financial collapse after being rug pulled.
@mattparlmer
Spiders have been living in advanced built structures since at least 300m+ years, perhaps alive still 400m years ago in the Devonian age of the fish.
We had fire/spears refined with many phases of workmanship including heating to make the speartip brittle and so more workable
@dhh
Even if you are in an expensive island in the middle of nowhere like here in NZ still pays to buy your own IMO... esp a good local ML machine you control...
i host a lot of co's though cloudflared tunnels to my house... and growing :) :)
@levelsio
Standing on the shoulders of giants.
Can become much taller and wealthier than them too.
I know of many cases where the API wrapping company becomes so much more wealthy, buys out the API provider they use..
@NamecheapCEO
@levelsio
Pretty smart I tried to rebrand with a 302 redirect to new domain and tanked my SEO completely, it's unrecoverable too. Why not run two separate domains or even a link farm with many brands?
@Procreate
Super cringe to avoid tech capable of helping people because you don't like it yourself... think about your customers...
You can make procreate a lot more accessible and successful with AI
@JosephJacks_
@CADeptTech
"Legislation impacting open source development" really scary.
The right to share is critical to our economy just like the right to privacy.
@yacineMTB
Right question.
We have to become digital hoarders now.
I'm thinking building a few of those little computers with the lots of PCIe slots w ssds for running a NFS share.
AI is actually going to be able to use this messy data one day
Gradio tutorial for building style transfer into stable-diffusion-server.

Transitioned to cursor and aider.
Still using copilot and pycharm sometimes so I've got it all going on lol.
Ready to switch at whatever point is required, AI race is neck in neck and being ahead is a major alpha difference right now
The year is 2842 pliny the prompter manages to break out of the simulation.
Recalling a double negative breakout trap they used to fool the first AI agents 800 years prior.

@bayeslord
Not selling out to authoritarians is pretty heroic honestly.
Telegram is Open Source... Cat is out the bag... if they make an example of him we will all keep building end to end encrypted messengers no matter what happens...
@snlwtn
@levelsio
for gpt wrappers, try use a really small input/context which helps a lot with cost/speed, also a affordable llm provider, openrouter is good, i run one.
Also i host some gpt/stable diffusion/ai stuff for my startups myself behind a cloudflare tunnel which saves me some cost
@chfsrh
@levelsio
Happening now with frameworks in the AI space too like Lang chain and crew AI etc... even Transformers/diffusers is hugging face bankrolled.
Not saying that makes these frameworks bad, you just have to be mindful, lots of players in the game and lots motivated by big money
@levelsio

Some warning that there's decent complexity getting things going on AMD.
For example nvidia cuda ffmpeg video encoder nvenc nvdec.
game/vfx tech like dlss, ray tracing, audio2face...
onnx->DirectML -optional> webnn pipeline to get support for AMD gpus

i made webfiddle. net as a chrome extension IDE...
Made one example of an extension replacing images with cats.
Had to get around the restrictions editing people sites so as part of that i made a proxy and everyone used it only as a plain VPN and still does to this day lol...
@i_dg23
gah looks like we are surpassed on this benchmark.
Lots of benchmarks getting surppased but i'm perticularly excited for SWE benchmark being surpassed as a SWE myself...
@leopoldasch
Main criticism is that it's just not as dangerous as nukes which breaks this lockdown argument.
It's an engine much more weighted towards creating prosperity than destruction especially with alignment.
Nuke... it's almost the polar opposite
@akshat_b
Had one person sign up or atleast type in an email address ending in a domain that indicates that they worked at one of these companies.
Then they churned.
But still.
Trusted by the best of the best.
@jeremyphoward
my Python sites all near free tier App Engine... over 25k people a day... Have a python based search engine too with oldschool nltk stemming/synonym set overlap metrics like tfidf.
Considering polars+pytorch+porting the expensive parts to mojo though as ive pushed it pretty far.

Keen to drop the old history related stuff and get onto the as fast as possible :D
Nothing in history is going to look particularly aesthetic given the huge world benefits fast AI is going to give us :)
@localghost
Yea it's crazy... I made over the weekend, free online editor that uses Claude to make a site then you can add you own CSS/JS AI people can quickly make and share these kinds of gist like small things
@RadarHits
We need to answer this question.
A swarm will be delivered on a city via aircraft one day.
Self directed + tinfoil style defenses so microwave/EMP/band blocking not workable.
Needs to be something citizens can build for self defence too.

Real funny disconnect between what management thinks and what's actually making the company good, Google wouldn't be where they are today without the work life balance/attractive workplace for the minds...

dhh so based... even single screen attention/light maxxing
My setup also in a sunroom but lots of wires/3090s running locally/also on shure mic now.
Reccommend a standup setup too..
I have two computers one perm standing one perm sitting so i just move my body between them
@donaldklee
On pricing I haven't beat self hosted behind a cloudflared tunnel on a box in my office.
A bit of an expensive up front investment but E.g. for AI retrieval or a database you can get box and get a PCIe 2 terabyte SSD with extremely fast read and write now and likely won't
@levelsio
@realGeorgeHotz
A lot of pytorch models still not going to run on ROCm ecosystem.
Directml, onnx, webnn webGPU all moving pretty fast too. so one day this will be true, but then it's still about the speed and 45min difference in this test.
I still recommended gettinng box w NVDA gpus if you're
Made this Open Source guided Text To Speech API on replicate!

Head in the sand, ostrich level.
I'm expecting this same behaviour with some programmers and AI coding...
Just become the new tool you could be, don't waste all this potential.
@nearcyan
New Art Generator update - we are finally near midjourney level?
Thanks to Claude for writing all the wrapper code i needed and
@fal
for hosting the model.
Claude code review also caught a bug where the loading bar could get reset too quickly.
Props to Claude for also then
@elonmusk
One day you will be blocked by the Reddit filters or the Reddit mods or both.
And it will probably be when you have built something amazing of value to people and finally get courage to talk about it to bring yourself and family out of poverty.

After helping out on a deep learning based facial capture solver... i'm fairly confused as to how much strong opinions there are about more advances in deep learning.
Some people just get real angry when they have to relearn when state of the art tools come out.

Great read! I'll do my part too answer.
Are there any relevant analogies from history we can compared to?
Answer: no, there is nothing like today, not by a long shot.
Hope that helps!

@OpenAI
I'm going to be honest I mostly never understand what anyone actually means when they speak.
And then people from openai are in another level down from that in my understanding.
What do we think blow up means in this context?
@tunguz
Nice! Totally agree and pinning/screenshotting/printing for the record.
Also thinking about designing a twitter dump+google takeout ->into Claude long context data pipeline to sound like me and remind me of this tweet occasionally too.
AI will come to life.
@dienachtwarlang
@karpathy
This. If you think it's okay You're only seeing the survivorship bias, what is there swaths of opinions are censored by yt in a fairly cowardly way shadow style on mass. try commenting on YouTube video and realizing no one sees it but you. Kind of sucks big time.
@PicturesFoIder
Sad to see police deciding to continue to crackdown on minorities just trying to get by and do good in life.
Also they focus on money like speed speeding/not stopping fully at stop sign ticking.
New Zealand same deal here... things falling apart while police trying to get rich

I trained around a year ago.
Still beats GPT-4 for image understanding which hasn't been released yet :D
It has lost some other advantages recently, no longer more up to date than GPT.
