@CampievanBears Lovely! There was a short period in the 19th century where wall boxes of a particular size had the cipher forgotten, just as pillar boxes did.

@BurnhamUprising It was probably installed when we had fewer and smaller cars so position wasn't an issue. More important to let people get access to the slot!

Edward VIII was born in 1894, third in line for the throne and facing high expectations. Though a natural leader to his siblings, he disliked his duties. As Prince of Wales he delegated his tasks to his younger brother Bertie, who succeeded him as King George VI #postboxsaturday

@JamesMu53042410 Somewhere near Bromley. We don't give out specific details to protect these boxes from theft.

The wall #postbox we shared on Saturday was unusual because of one feature - its keyhole. The modified door prevented it from bashing into something delicate when it was opened. Most wall and lamp boxes have a left-hand keyhole, while most pillar boxes have a right-hand keyhole

RT @BrummieGerryM: @lbsg1976 The only other thing I can add is the door opens from the other side and a handle to open the door is missing?…

@BrummieGerryM Handles aren't on all boxes, but you're bang on with the keyhole

@IanHibble @letterappsoc We've nicknamed this box design a "Nigerian". It's not quite the same as normal - notice the cap is smooth instead of fluted, and the 'NEXT COLLECTION' is on a flat plate instead of curved around the box. This type was originally made for export to Nigeria and other places.

@BrummieGerryM @EileenofKent We do indeed know, but we don't release the numbers or locations to the public as they are vulnerable to theft
