@hani_marcus Sometimes possible to link something new to an existing technology. Example: including a pressure sensor into a reservoir, which is already an established part of a shunt implanted to treat hydrocephalus. This added a new capability to monitor pressure with no additional risk.

@hani_marcus Other aspects: to assess risk against benefit (greater benefit justifies greater risk) and whether there is an alternative for a particular patient group (if no alternative treatment, patients may be willing to accept greater risk).
