Our new paper in @EHPonline found that public water systems with more Hispanic and Black customers were more likely to have unregulated industrial contaminants and to be close to pollution sources.
Nearly a third of people in the U.S. have been exposed to unregulated contaminants in their drinking water that could impact their health, according to a new Silent Spring study published today in @EHPonline.

Thank you @SenJeffMerkley for hosting today’s Senate hearing on #PFAS exposures and health effects. It’s critically important that we take steps to avoid unnecessary PFAS exposures now and work to develop additional PFAS-free alternatives in the future. @SilentSpringIns

Thank you @fastlerner for attending our @SilentSpringIns gala this week as one of our Rachel Carson Advocacy Award winners. So grateful for all that I've learned from your incredibly well-researched and thoughtful reporting on #PFAS and other failures in our chemical regulations.

This is an important @JAMA_current Viewpoint piece on the ways that clinicians can address PFAS exposures and health effects in patient care. Thanks to the authors for highlighting our PFAS-REACH clinician guidance document, available at:
Viewpoint describes new maximum contaminant levels set by @EPA for specific perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and discusses the role clinicians can play in addressing their patients’ PFAS health concerns.

So much important remediation info from @NCState’s Detlef Knappe. POET systems with 100s of lbs of GAC are highly effective but off-the-shelf systems often are not. Very imp to monitor emissions from incineration, which vary by temperature & chemical structure #PFASConference2024

Kevin Elliott from @michiganstateu described @theNASEM 2022 report on clinical guidance, and the need to consider that waiting too long can miss opportunities to take meaningful action. And thanks for the shoutout on our PFAS-REACH guidance!

Jennifer Rawlison of Newburgh Clean Water Project noted stark difference between prompt clinical response & intervention for her children’s lead exposure versus lack of clinical knowledge on PFAS. Clinical guidance needs to be accessible, focused & digestible #PFASConference2024

Having diverse study populations is important! @JesseAGoodrich found PFHpA (7-carbon cousin of PFOA) was linked to liver cancer, especially among Latino & Japanese Americans, who are also more likely to have a specific genetic variant. This trend not seen in White participants.

Day 2 of #PFASConference2024! Starting off with Rachel Rogers from ATSDR. We need more information about non-water exposures such as diet, dust, air, and soil, and more guidance for breastfeeding parents.

Bob Delaney authored a 2012 MI EGLE report that first identified #PFAS contamination in MI, but the report was ignored for years. We need to understand links between chemicals and health and then communicate to media, the public, and political leaders #PFASConference2024
