@sharghzadeh The people they drop bands to bring for tarawih are usually specific qurra’, it’s not the local underpaid imams. Using money as an incentive like this can very easily corrupt a person’s intention

Thousands of dollars to lead taraweeh in Ramadan. This whole mindset is just wrong
Stanford MSA is paying $5k + expenses for someone to lead Taraweeh this Ramadan. Some of my Hafidh friends are getting $5K, $7K, even $10K+ for a month of recitation. Better than some SWE internships. Islam is growing in the West. Masjids are expanding. Ramadan programs are increasing. But there aren’t enough people to lead. For years, we were told a CS degree was the safest bet. But when Ramadan comes, it’s the Huffadh who are in demand. Masjids need leaders. Communities need guidance. The shortage is real. At some point, we have to ask: is an Islamic education more valuable than a CS degree?

@CollegeBoard777 Whenever I write anything on twitter and it turns out to be a grammatical nightmare with typos and simple language, I blame it on the fact that it’s twitter or was written on my phone. I want to try writing longer pieces like on substack but that’ll just expose me as a bad writer

Despite twitter arguments, I would’ve thought the divide between salafis and trads would be much smaller in the real world. After sitting in very traditionalist circles, I’m surprised at the extent to which salafis are blamed for issues with American Muslim communities
