Never forget the fact the original Helldivers game had a literal WW1 vintage Springfield 1903 bolt-action rifle still in service with Super Earth Federation military as a ceremonial rifle and can even be equipped ingame as part of a Helldiver's weapon loadout.

My pet peeve with Helldivers mech design is that they are too much of a fugly mobile pillbox. Honestly I prefer them look more humanoid like those Japanese-inspired mecha designs that can slash through hordes of bugs & dump all the heavy dakka at the bots with extreme prejudice.

A rarely mentioned aspect of Legend of Galactic Heroes is that they have ground battles. However these aren't as prominent as the dominant space battles of the setting. Yet I still love the fact that they had tracked combat vehicles still being used by humanity in the far future.

This is where I have to disagree, "space is an ocean" tropes can be pretty cool if done right. Also, I actually despised the whole idea of stealth starships LARPing as "space submarines" more especially when other ideas like subspace dimensions and interdimensional travels exist.

Idea for sci-fi spaceships: Ironclad or Pre-Dreadnoughts as a term for what is effectively 1st gen FTL capable battleships, these can be identified by their lack of fixed guns & energy shield, relying mainly on turrets/missiles and physical armor protection in mid-range combat.

Idea for a space-centric spinoff of Helldivers: Call it Voidskippers, have it be a Bomber Crew-style RTS game with the player as the commander of a warship & its crew trying to survive and maintain their vessel through many interstellar campaigns against Super Earth enemies.

About the latest Spacedock vid, I think that smaller spaceships are better. Mostly because I think swarm-sized fleets should be the norm of interstellar civs & I had many grounded ideas like battle doctrine, purpose, dock size, tech level, cost and material that limit ship sizes.

Like imagine if we get something like the Patlabor’s JGSDF ARL-99 Helldiver in Helldivers 2 alongside the other support vehicles like APC and tanks for the maximum combined arms experience. Grounded but just as cool-looking and fit with the whole military scifi theme of the game.

Gundam hot take: I want to see a Gundam series that feature interstellar setting than just being confined to Sol. Don’t need aliens but atleast have humanity colonized planets beyond Sol while still largely limited by not having true FTL techs (ala Killzone or Expanse series).

Its still funny to me that even tho Legend of Galactic Heroes ships are smaller, those things are way easier to built en-masse, packed more long-ranged firepowers and can travel faster than whatever the UNSC and the Covenant starships can do in those aspects.

So about the reason why my starship designs often feature large intakes: Its because they are Bussard intakes, their function are actually to collect gases like hydrogen, helium, oxygen and nitrogen and even water droplets in space for the ship’s engine and onboard operation.

I mean, they did tried the multi-segmented pauldrons before with the Crusade/Heresy-Era Cataphractii and Tartaros Termies, and those ended up being phased out by the cheaper and simpler pauldrons of the Indomitus pattern by modern 40k era.

I don't care if it's unrealistic, the space submarines in Space Battleship Yamato series to me is still a more interesting concept & closer to how IRL submarines operate than the usual sci-fi stealth spaceships tropes. (literally using subspace dimension as their form of stealth)
