It's surprising how simple this was (to film, not to finish). We dollied towards Henry as a bright red light was dialed up. Then the camera moved around and away from him. This provided the basic element for the VFX guys (led by DJ DesJardin) who took over from there and voilà!
Hopefully the

re-colors becuz Superman suit color is horrendous in JL.
BvS has it perfectly, shouts out to

for that.
Ironically the shot was just Ben with a Steadicam following. Nothing else. No lights, no reflectors, and just one take, maybe two. Took a few minutes to shoot.
Need an entire movie directed by Zack Snyder, Shot By Larry Fong and Scored by Junkie XL of Ben Affleck Walking through a field with leaves falling over in slow motion. No idea how they managed to make that visually striking cause now I want more.
100% not true. No two people share the exact same aesthetic but even way back in film school, we were certainly drawn to very similar styles. And in our films we collaborated closely and easily. But he IS the director and it all starts with his vision, not mine.
Zack, straight out of film school, shot and operated most of his TV commercial and music video work (which was amazing and award winning). He has the knowledge and skills, and doesn't just look through the camera and call himself a DP.

Plus, Larry Fong did the cinematography on that. Zack Snyder's only films where he did the cinematography are Snow Steam Iron (which, granted, he shot for fun using an iPhone, so not a lot you can do there) and Army of the Dead (which is his least visually-engaging film so far).

The backstory: Zack called and said, 'I have a shot of a casino and I want a billboard on it; can you send a pic asap?' My pal

Zack is extremely specific with his aesthetic. Nothing is by accident. Executing his vision is what production design, costumes, cinematography, VFX, grading, etc., accomplish
My New Year’s resolutions are 6K and 8K, although I’m just fine with 2x anamorphic on 35mm, thank you. Large format is overrated (also, get off my lawn).
Not gonna lie either: I'm not mad. I support my brother 100%. That's how it works with family. And we're both excited about the different things we're working on and what we're learning. Life is good!
Ironically I just found a BTS vid I shot of the title sequence. This shot was about a minute and a half long but of course it was cut down to a fraction of that :)
@larryfong
So cool!! I REALLY enjoyed that film especially when i got my hands on the extended cut. Heard there is even more you guys wanted to add. Would love to see it!

Both are similar and because of that can work so great together. Proof that they are on the same page. Snyder is both a very competent director and cinematographer. I'm not worried about Rebel moon because it will have Zack's signature style. And it will be epic!

One night on BvS, craft service had both hot dogs and macaroni n’ cheese. I couldn’t decide, so I put mac n’ cheese ON a hot dog. When Zack saw what I was eating he immediately ran outside to make one too, leaving the cast and crew confused and bewildered. That’s how we roll.

It’s bad dark. I love dark films, but it’s not as smart as it thinks it is. My only issue with that is it’s literally dark, as in, it looks poorly lit. They’re schlock that thinks they are art. That’s why JL worked slightly. It was schlock that was being schlock.

What many don’t realize is the funeral(s) sequence, until the end of the film—is IMAX. Not for the usual immersive action reasons, but for cinematic reasons. The large negative gave a quality that was almost like shooting medium-format still photography.

Remember he shot most of his own commercials and music videos from the very beginning. He's doing what he needs to do (think about the disrespect and betrayal he experienced not so long ago). He knows what he's doing, he's doing it well, and I'm behind him 100%.
Ok guys, it’s been a blast today reconnecting with so many of you and having a chill Sunday. But there’s lots to do in our cities and country this week so gotta prepare and get rested up. Be well everyone!

This was probably one of the most difficult sequences I’ve ever shot. Art dept., VFX, stunts, lighting, grip, camera—all gave 110% to make this happen and would take forever to explain (no beam splitter).
@larryfong
How was this shot? It looks like it would require some kind of beam splitter but there's so much motion around/between actors and a splitter seems cumbersome.
