We are saddened by the passing of Preston born football Lenny Johnrose today (15 August) aged 52. Lenny played 430 league games & scored 50 goals for six clubs including PNE, Blackburn Rovers, Bury and Burnley. He was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in March 2017. RIP Lenny.

We are saddened by the sudden death of Johnny Greenwood at the age of 39. Johnny was a classy elegant footballer who played for a number of the top teams in this league. He was good and loyal friend & teammate but most of all he was a top guy who will be sadly missed. RIP Johnny

Eamonn McNamara retired from the League at the AGM on Monday 17 June after serving on the committee for 50 years and over 40 as Chairman. League Secretary Nikki Nye paid tribute to Eamonn before presenting tokens of appreciation to him and his wife Liz.

Preston referee Neil Swarbrick is to retire as head of Premier League VAR. Neil played in the 1997 Presidents Cup Final and he refereed the 1998 Presidents Final. He refereed 6 years on the Football League & 7 years on the Premier League. More details here

Fulwood & Broughton (green/black) beat Burscough Villa 5-2 to win the Syndicate Trust Presidents Cup at Bamber Bridge FC. Burscough Villa (Div 3) took an 8th minute lead through Jak Brennan, but Fulwood & Broughton (Div 1) responded spectacularly scoring 4 goals in a 13 minute

Our congratulations to FIFA Official and Premier League Assistant Referee Natalie Aspinall from Blackpool, who makes her debut in the Women's World Cup in New Zealand, Columbia v South Korea on Tues 25 July. Natalie has refereed in this League and we send her our best wishes.

We are saddened to learn of the death of Frank Thompson, long time secretary of Gregson Lane JFC, on Sun 8 Aug 2020. A founder member of the club in 1974, his efforts were recognised by an LFA Long Service Award in 2016. Gregson Lane now has 16 teams in the four local leagues.

Acregate Lane LC were crowned League Champions after beating Southport & AA 2-1 in the title decider. Paul Turner scored two for Acregate and Kev Edgar replied for Southport. Cadley beat Garstang 3-1 in the Youth Division White Title play-off at the Arena.

Ashton Town (red/white) are into to the Youth Cup Final at Bamber Bridge FC on Weds 10 April after beating Eagley 2-0 at Brookfields, home of Astley & Buckshaw FC. Toby Taylor scored both goals, the first after 2 minutes and then after 57 mins from Matty Ellison’s superb cross.

An 88th minute goal by Jordan Daniel was enough to see Sir Tom Finney FC through to the Presidents Cup Final at Bamber Bridge FC on Wednesday 27th April. Mind you, they were made to fight for their victory by league new boys Fulwood & Broughton FC.
