In 2019, John Korir led the Los Angeles Marathon until the final mile, only to get outsprinted and had to settle for second. Today he busted a huge surge at mile 19 and closed at 4:50 pace to win in 2:12:48 (5:04 for the race!) His brother, Wesley Korir, won the LA marathon twice!
Seattle’s Hassen Hassen was the top American male finisher today, placing sixth overall in 2:22:18! Not too shabby for a debut marathon! Great work, Hassen!
American Tyler McCandless (Fort Collins, Colo.) placed 4th in 2:15:18. He missed the podium by 8 seconds, but he did qualify for his fourth consecutive U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon. Way to get it done,
