@Grammaa1947 @DoctaShoka @JeffPassan @ChandlerRome It’s a reasonable financial overpay that solves immediate problems, creates multiple options, doesn’t bind them long term - I’m fine with it. Team hasn’t spent money in forever. This won’t hamstrung them.

@DoctaShoka @JeffPassan @ChandlerRome too focused on the high AAV. They haven’t spent money in 6 years. It’s a short term deal. It makes the team better and he is gone after 3 seasons. This isn’t the Padres being stuck with Xander for 12 years. In the new landscape, you have to overpay short to not be stuck long

@DoctaShoka @JeffPassan @ChandlerRome It’s an overpay but I think they were trying to balance bringing in an impact player on a short term deal - who wouldn’t block their prospects - and who could teach a young team a winning culture. I’m okay with it. The money is crazy but it’s crazy everywhere.

@DoctaShoka @JeffPassan @ChandlerRome Agreed, a year away. I think they overpaid on a short term deal as opposed to paying going rate on a 5 year deal. Mayer will be ready in 26; at which point Story is heading out. Campbell can also play OF & Bregman can also go back to 3rd & send Devers to DH if Campbell is ready

@DoctaShoka @JeffPassan @ChandlerRome They didn’t really. It’s why they overpaid for a shorter term deal. They fixed short term issues with creating long term problems. Marcelo & Campbell aren’t ready to start this year.
