Fletcher Building's after-tax profit has jumped 42% to $432 million. Over the last year, 22.7% of the inflation experienced in Aotearoa has been from the increasing cost of building a house. Their profits are our inflation.

The EU wrote to the Malaysian Ministry of Int'l Trade and Industry suggesting rubber glove factories operate 24/7. While the glove industry is an essential service, Malaysia is in lockdown. Workers are already doing 14-16 hour days. Is this not a demand for forced labour?

Shame on @TVNZ for leading their reporting of the possible Ihumātao resolution by negatively highlighting its $30 million price tag. Fletchers, who blocked this resolution for years, took $66 million in wage subsidies before cutting 1500 jobs. Where's the moral equivalence?

The subtext of Chris Bishop et al saying 'NZ is last in the vaccine queue' is that he means the queue of white countries. To August 2021 75% of doses had gone to only 10 countries, while only 4% of Africans had received a dose. We need a #PeoplesVaccine , not a vaccine queue.

NZ Bus, which has a 36% share of our national bus sector, was sold for $300 million in 2018. We could nationalise our whole bus sector for less than the cost of the 21km Mill Rd link, then get to work on improving working conditions, reducing fares and decarbonising transport.

Meridian has just reported a $236m (55%) jump in after-tax profit to $664m. The four power companies that have now reported their results this year have seen profits increase 133 percent, from $631m to $1.47 billion. This is a windfall, let's tax it like one.

ANZ calling for another 35000+ people to be made unemployed. A 35K drop in income per person (from ~50K to ~15K on a benefit), would reduce demand by $1.2 billion. Later today ANZ will report 2022 profits. Last year their profit put almost $2 billion in costs on the NZ economy.

Min wage increase is great but highlights the bracket creep question. From 1 April if a min wage worker does one hour of overtime a week they will enter the 30% tax bracket, alongside paying highest GST in the world. Need to shift tax burden from income to capital.

Throwing 70000 people out of work will decrease monthly consumption by about $200 million. In Sept 22, 151,270 visitors arrived in NZ. MBIE estimates an avg stay of 18 days, spending $197 a day = $536 million. Cut tourism, not jobs.

. @actparty still out here saying you need to raise productivity before raising wages. But productivity growth has almost doubled wage growth for the last 30 years. Bosses and shareholders pocket the gains that workers generate then bully them out of fair wage increases.
