Happy Kansas Day! 🌻 The sunflower, or helianthus, became the state flower of Kansas in 1903. Here’s a photo of the oldest known specimen of the annual sunflower from our Botany collection, collected in the 1870s-1880s by Francis Snow in Douglas County. #KansasDay #SunflowerState

Due to weather, the museum was closed on Sunday, resulting in the cancellation of our National Bird Day event. But fear not! Our avian-themed scavenger hunt is back on and will take place February 14-16, just in time for the Great Backyard Bird Count! 🦅
