@postsocialismus It’s not the term used in the USSR, just льготы. There is also the term незримые доходы for things you would pay for under capitalism but don’t under socialism. I cover this in my book.

@rusxander Fantastic! Could you send me the publisher details? Would love to try to review it for RR.

@huwaliyasuntob It's a terrible decision. It's not even like it's easy to just go somewhere else--the local cafes are all closed too (and I bet some of the daycares are too). Where are you supposed to go to warm up, especially with kids? And it will get dark out around 4 pm.

@huwaliyasuntob What on earth could they be doing with the electrical system in this weather and for 12 hours? Our heat is electrical; the apartment is going to be freezing by the time we come home and we won't even be able to prepare food for our child. I'm furious about this.

@DrRadchenko An excellent book! Also, @ErikRScott provided the afterword to our forthcoming collection with @LorenzLuthi on defectors in the Cold War.

@yuanyi_z They also discharged me with no rehab plan despite having a baby and major spinal surgery the same day. I'm doing much better, but it's not due to the public system; it's because I've spent thousands to get the physio I need in a timely way. So yeah, the system is broken.

@huwaliyasuntob I remember having a lot of anxiety around this back in 2014 when I defended, and it never came up once in any talks with publishers. I always sent a pdf of my dissertation to anyone who wanted to read it, including colleagues in Russia.

@Aaron_Derfel I wonder also if mass retirement/exodus of family doctors combined with the push toward technological solutions exacerbates the problem: my elderly parents are not here in QC but they would have great difficulty with Clic Santé. I'm in my 40s and I have difficulty navigating it!

@ToulasTake How is this going to work with residencies after graduation? Most doctors move to another institution/city/even country to do residencies after their studies. Are they going to be deprived of this option? Not enough thought given to the logistics of this, IMHO.

@ToulasTake Have these people never heard of co-morbidities? BTW, yesterday I had a blood draw appt at a CLSC booked through Clic Santé and 3 admins checked me in 3 times. Can't see a doctor for more than one thing but we can pay 3 people to verify you have an appt? Make it make sense.

@ToulasTake Horrified to learn about this after having spent a week in the hospital at the JGH and having consumed a LOT of coffee from those branches during that time. I’m glad this was dealt with swiftly!
