On Jan. 23, in commemoration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Kramer Levin's Diversity and Inclusion team hosted a discussion with @AppellateProj (TAP)'s Founder and Executive Director, Juvaria Khan. TAPās mission is to target underrepresentation in the appellate field and empower law students of color to thrive through #mentorship, #academic programs, and #networking. Since its founding in 2019, TAP has provided innovative appellate resources to more than 600 students from 108 law schools nationwide, opening doors for the next generation of appellate lawyers and judges. This discussion also featured two of TAP's Mentorship Program alumni, Sidley Austin LLP associate Oge Maduike and federal law clerk Kendrick Peterson, who shared insight into their respective experiences in the program. On Jan. 21, in commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day and in collaboration with the UJA-Federation of New York, Kramer Levin welcomed Holocaust survivor Gabriella Major to share her first-hand accounts of the time period and share her thoughts on where we stand today. Gabriella was introduced by general counsel Jeff Davis. Gabriella was just two years old when her transport to Auschwitz was mistakenly diverted to a concentration camp called Strasshof, in Austria, where she, her mother, and her grandmother faced disease, hunger, and extreme hardship. Miraculously, Gabriella and her mother survived and were eventually able to immigrate to the U.S., where she became a social worker and raised four children with psychiatrist and fellow survivor Dr. William Major. Kramer Levin would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Gabriella for sharing her story with us, and to UJA for its longstanding partnership with the firm.
