@liminal_bardo 3. How much compute does the system require. From repo I see it is API fed but it’s still gotta take quite a bit. Just curious 😂

@liminal_bardo Just went through the repo. Absolutely sublime. I’m thinking of fantastic business use cases. Yikes!

@TechCrunch Musk own goal? @asemota he is building a company who’s main selling point is “good for the environment” but using DOGE to cut federal funding his company benefits from. Can’t be a good move

Critics focus too much on the risks of open-source AI and overlook its benefits. Open innovation has been key to the AI boom. For example, the "transformer" technology behind OpenAI's GPT models was first published by Google engineers. Tools like TensorFlow (Google) and PyTorch (Meta) were shared globally, enabling AI advancements. However, some now argue that AI is too critical to be open to everyone, fearing misuse. Critics claim open-source AI helps rivals like China, citing a case where Chinese researchers adapted Meta’s Llama 2 model for military use. Others worry about terrorists or criminals bypassing safeguards in open models. Companies like Anthropic warn about risks, such as models being fine-tuned for harmful purposes like creating bioweapons. While misuse is possible, the focus on dangers overshadows the benefits. Information on bioweapons already exists online, and open-source AI can help defenders more than attackers. Plus, China’s own AI models are already competitive with Meta’s. Open-source software has driven tech innovation for decades. It powers the internet, devices, and services like Spotify. Making software free strengthens it, builds trust and collaboration. Openness in AI can prevent power from being concentrated in a few companies. Closed models have their place for sensitive tasks, but open or partially open models are vital too. Governments should support open-source AI by enforcing safety regulations uniformly and avoiding overly restrictive intellectual property laws. In AI, as in other software, innovation thrives when it’s open.

@asemota Recent events have helped me understand the history of the Roman empire. The semblance is uncanny. It’s like a simulation with the same nodes and edges but different weights. It’s like time resets and the same story tells itself with different characters.

@TechCrunch This is why you best avoid politics as a business man. Just do your business quietly. You are always one misstep away from customer apathy but politics dramatically increases the odds.
