For many Facebook users in Africa, once the platform is "down", the assumption is that the entire internet is down. Majority of folks think Facebook is the internet. That's the problem when Facebook tries to "connect" the unconnected in developing countries.

This #Flutterwave issue should not have any impact on the resilience of the Nigerian startup ecosystem. It’s a company, not an ecosystem, scandal. There’s been several similar scandals in the US and Europe but it didn’t shake the confidence of VCs in these regions.

It took a resilient team, a good lawyer and international media, not the government of Ghana, to push for fair compensation. Yes, tech companies will create jobs in Africa but when they unfairly treat employees, your government won't come to your aid. You are on your own.

In Ghana, citizens can beat up a man who is caught sleeping with another man because we have a @LSEnews educated MP, @samgeorgegh , fuelling such hatred towards sexual minorities in Ghana. There will be more casualties when the anti-LGBTQI bill he is sponsoring is passed.
