@HongyinTao That’s a good point. It wasn’t an issue we as editors discussed. We were more focused on integrating multimodal transcription into standard practice in the field. It would be interesting to see how many chapters use “eye-dialect” vs modified standard orthography.

@HongyinTao I mostly use standard orthography, with conventional contractions (e.g., “gonna”), unless a particular pronunciation is highly marked and possibly doing something special. But I understand why many conversation analysts use “eye-dialect” and don’t fault them for it.

@yvonnecrepaldi I don’t think ‘arresting’ is the most common word. ‘Halting’ and ‘disrupting’ are pretty standard. See halting+progressivity’&btnG= and disrupting+progressivity’&btnG=
