I’m in Montana right now visiting family. Just passed by a baseball field by my parents house. This dad is throwing BP to his kid while holding up a twin mattress with his other hand... and it’s below freezing outside. Had to take a pic. This is dedication!
Don’t mistake repetition with getting better. I’ve been driving for over 20 years... but I’m not really any better at it than I was 10 years ago. Because I’m not deliberately trying to get better. I’m on auto pilot most of the time... and so are a lot of players at “practice.”
This guy was drafted yesterday. This morning he was out hitting with me. He had the field set up before I got there.
To give yourself a chance to play at the highest level u have to be willing to do the work that others don’t want to do. FYI
@benithen
didn’t know I took this pic
Max Muncy was out of baseball 15 months ago because he hit too many ground balls. Now he’s in the HR Derby mashing balls. Get the ball in the air kids.

IMO the best hitting coaches...
•are continually learning
•know there isn’t “one way”
•have no ego
•aren’t afraid to admit they were wrong
•know when to just shut up
•challenge hitters
•allow for freedom to experiment
•make hitting fun
George Brett is 1 of 4 guys to have 3,000 hits, 300 HR’s, & a career .300 AVG. He was a pretty solid teammate too. He used to show up early for BP & throw lefty to Royals bench guys (he was a righty). Then he’d hit & take GB’s. After that he would fill in at 1B for the reserves.
I put a link to a google drive in my bio. Feel free to check it out. It’s basically just baseball related tweets from the last few months... organized into categories and alphabetized. I started it for my team but I thought other coaches may find it useful. Still adding to it.
If you think merely “wanting to win” classifies you as a competitor then you’re sadly mistaken. Everyone wants to win and you’ve separated yourself from no one. Its weights, practice, visualization, preparation, nutrition, sleep, focus, etc... and getting teammates to follow suit
This past year has been a wild ride for me to say the least… and now it’s time to start a new chapter in my coaching career. I have decided to accept the head baseball coach position at Eastern Arizona JC. Go Gila Monsters!
For the last 2 weeks I’ve been working on a hitting google drive... following in the footsteps of fellow Montanan Dustin Lind. Mine is not as extensive yet and it’s slightly different. I originally started it for my team but decided to make it public. The link is in my bio.
This team just finds ways to win. 4 runs in the last 2 innings. We were down to our last strike. So happy for these kids. On our way back to the World Series!
When I took this job last July I was given a list of 13-14 guys that were on the roster. We ended up with the best winning % the program has had since 1999. Fun group of dudes to be around. Good luck to these sophomores. ♠️

I’m a Padres fan because of Tony Gwynn. He’s synonymous with hitting. If you haven’t watched his documentary on the MLB network this clip says a lot about him. He was not a very good defender early in his career but he made himself into one. Be a COMPLETE player.
They go thru 10 dozen baseballs in an average MLB game 😳?!? When there’s 1 or 2 balls left from the dozen we started the game with it feels like Xmas for me.
It’s embarrassing that there are grown men on this site that will follow you... and then unfollow you if you don’t follow them back. And continue to keep doing it. That’s seems like it would take a lot of effort.
Man it felt good to be at the yard today doing some field work. Get to have an actual practice tomorrow. It’s been a little over 10 months. Can’t wait.
This story probably won’t get much publicity... but this is pretty cool.
*Baseball team from Montana (my home state) has all their gear/trailer stolen while at regionals in Cali. Team from Washington steps up to help them out with gloves, bats, helmets, etc... 👊 awesome!
3 years ago today was probably my favorite day in a baseball uniform. We won the region championship and advanced to the World Series. And I was able to celebrate with my son. He ran onto the field right after the last out. He was so excited!
I got the opportunity to toss some front flips to Fernando Tatis Jr. today for a commercial. Have to admit it was little nerve wracking when the guy said “action”... and it needed to be a strike. 😬
Dear CFP Committee:
Can you please let Washington State play Alabama in the semifinals...
1. That press conference would be legendary with Mike Leach and Nick Saban.
2. I think the game would be entertaining too.
Ben Aklinski was the POY in our conference in 2017. Then he moved on to Kentucky and was eventually drafted by the Phillies. Tonight he was the first guy out of the dugout on a game wining hit. Be a great teammate. They won’t remember your stats. They’ll remember you!
@benithen
Proud of my guys
@pcbearball
. We clinched the
#1
seed in our region playoffs today. It’s been a roller coaster of a year… but wouldn’t want to do it with any other dudes.

Pretty good day at the office for the Bears at the NJCAA World Series.
8-0 run rule victory
14 for 30 with 0 K’s offensively
7-inning shutout by Jonah Giblin
Spencer Torkelson is a phenomenal hitter and will be a 1st round pick next year. You can tell he has a great approach and routine that he believes in. He also isn’t afraid to choke up with 2 strikes.
Juan Soto... 0-3 with 2K’s before he got the game winning hit tonight. Nobody will remember those earlier at-bats. If you let bad AB’s early in the game erode your confidence it’s really hard to be the hero.
Daniel Poncedeleon was hit in the head by a line drive 14 months ago and his career was in jeopardy. Tonight in his major league debut he has a no-hitter thru 7 innings (and his dad just caught a foul ball in the stands).
BASEBALL IS AWESOME!

When I was listening to the game on the radio while I was driving home they said these were his old college buddies. Dude is 38 years old. Pretty cool.
Proud to announce my commitment to Utah Valley University! Wouldn’t be here without my coaches, teammates, and family. Without you all none of this years success would have been possible. Let’s ride.

As a college coach not getting a player you really want hurts... for a short time. Getting the wrong player in your program hurts... for a long time. He beats you everyday.
Still got plenty of work to do… but I’m proud of the guys for being at the top of the conference in AVG and OBP. They’ve worked their tails off. Almost a 100 point improvement in OBP so far compared to 2023.

Opening Day tomorrow for some of us juco guys. Nothing like opening up against the defending national champs. Phoenix College at Central Arizona 12:00.
So I’m working with my 4 yr old on his 3-letter words... consonant/vowel/consonant. I had him pick any letters he wanted and then try and sound it out. The first go round he went with F-U-K. He then sounded it out. Go ahead and send the dad of the year trophy to my house. 🏆
My grandma passed away a couple years ago. I’ve had a voicemail from her saved on my phone for a few years now. I decided to record part of it and put it in this teddy bear. It took my mom a little while to figure out how to play it though.

If you want to develop as a hitter… come join us at Eastern Arizona JC. Here are the improvements our 4 sophomores made in our 1st year with the program.

There should be a class where you’re taught the following:
-when you’re in the far left lane on the freeway and getting passed by cars on your right… you’re in the wrong lane
-put your grocery cart away
-don’t use 2 parking spots
-crosswalk “courtesy jog”
-don’t hit “reply all”
We also have another one in our bag of tricks. This one didn’t get us an out... but we executed it. It was a planned “bounce throw” back pick at 2B. To pull it off it needs to look like the pitcher can catch it. Announcers had no clue.
A little throwback to my 15 seconds of fame on ESPN. If you coach college sports this should be a must watch for your team. There’s a reason big time programs have
@RyanDLeaf
come out to speak to their athletes.

Wow. I can tell you I definitely pay more attention to high school and I absolutely go to high school games to see players. I want to see who performs in big time situations/games. Also, HS is more team oriented... club ball more individual. I want good players and good people.
Ben Aklinski with a two-strike, two-out, two-run single to push the Cutters lead to 10-3 ... His 10 RBIs are third-best on the team ... He’s been on the team for 5 days
Is it still considered “dry work” when it’s raining out?
Rain or shine our pitchers are gettin after it with the plyo balls, command balls, and wrist weights. Go Bears!
@DrivelineBB
In 2015 we were 1 win away from the World Series. This pic is the other team dogpiling on OUR field after they beat us. I told myself it’d be the wallpaper on my phone until we dogpiled for ourselves. Took until 2017. Jordan’s motivational tactics definitely reminded me of this.
A pair of 6-0 wins for the Bears today. Nice way to start the season. Also, need to mention that we threw a perfect game in the first game. And after the first batter in game 2 got a hit... they didn’t get anymore. And we hit 4 💣’s.

As a hitter you’ll have more success with a solid approach than you will with solid mechanics. You should be able to write your approach down on paper.
Phoenix College Baseball team giving back to the community (St. Vincent de Paul). Thank you
@SVdP
for having us. Our guys had fun helping out in the dream center and dining hall.
@PC_Athletics
Kid pitched a gem for us last night. That Central Arizona squad was 31-0, ranked
#1
in the country, and are the defending national champs. 5-1 W for the Bears!

My youngest assistant turns 6 today. He helped record some velocities for us a few times this fall. During the last game he asked me... dad why does this guy have so many 78’s?
Kid cracks me up.
