Starting off my IM rotation tomorrow by following around the ICU nurses. I’m low-key very excited! I’ll also get a day with respiratory therapy, social work, and care management. I’m stoked to get a more wholistic view of Internal Medicine. 🤘🏻

There also needs to be a plan. Can the student end the audition early without negative consequences? If the student chooses to stay can there be meaningful goal-setting and periodic feedback so that the student can perform at a higher level in a subsequent audition?

Upon request, my last preceptor treated our rotation as an audition-season boot camp, and I cannot express how grateful I am for the level of rigor and excellence he demanded from me! I fell short often, but he gave amazing feedback and his encouragement/praise always felt real.

Hey senior residents! The starting salary for primary care in my region is 300K. My hospital even offers a 50K signing bonus and a 10K moving allotment on top of that. There are hospital systems out there that will pay you what you’re worth and treat you with respect.

Like I can already tell that some peers are going to be exceptional leaders and mentors and I pray they don’t ever change and others I try to give grace to, hoping that they learn to treat people with a little more kindness. I know I would want grace extended on my rougher days.
