To this day, Spotlight is the only movie to shake me to my core and still resonate years later. This scene alone deserves all the recognition possible.
If you haven’t seen it, see it. Then read the Boston Globe story. Then read it again.
“Luka Garza is the first Iowa player drafted since Aaron White in 2015.” -
@espn
No, he’s the first Iowa player drafted since Joe Weiskamp, 11 picks ahead of him.
Am I doing this right, basketball Twitter?
Lee just said they talked about medical forfeiting a few times, but "if I'm gonna lose, I'm gonna lose my way."
His tournament performance just got a hell of a lot more impressive.
I’m VERY excited to *officially* announce that I’ve accepted a communications position with the
@indyindians
. I was lucky enough to get to know the organization and people there this past season, and I can’t wait to continue to grow with them.
Bring on 2020.
I left the Iowa football beat in December, but apparently ya’ll couldn’t keep it together without me.
Kidding - kind of - but in all seriousness, I’m very excited to start writing for
@hawkeyenation
. Here’s to hoping there’s a football season (or any season, for that matter).
In some (other) work news, I'll be continuing my coverage of Iowa wrestling from Indy with
@FloWrestling
. Wrestling has been my favorite thing to cover over the past two seasons, and I am so lucky to continue following this team.
First one, check it. 👇
Broadcasters talking at length about how Adam Wainwright was cheering on the Dylan Carlson double because he is now in line for the win, not for the team?
It’s really bold to be that stupid.
4 months ago I was being told I had no idea what I was talking about & that my opinion didn’t matter because I’m a woman wrestling reporter. Now I’m here. Life comes at ya quick.
I don't like people saying sports don't matter because my career and the careers of a lot of people I care about are in sports. We're all stressed asf right now and have been nonstop literally since March 12.
Spencer Lee’s 2020:
Big Ten Champion
Big Ten Wrestler of the Year
NCAA DI Most Dominant Wrestler
Dan Hodge Trophy winner
NWCA All-American
AAU James E. Sullivan Award winner
And he’s got another collegiate year while chasing Olympic goals? 👀
My favorite Allen Craig memory was not when he caught the final out of the 2011 World Series but when he tripped over Boston's third baseman in the 2013 World Series. You can't beat that.
Some personal news:
I will be committing my Thanksgiving break to watching all the Star Wars movies for the first time. No additional questions, please.
Baseball’s starting a little earlier for me in 2019 😍 I’ll be working in communications for a Triple-A team for the entire season and couldn’t be more excited
After two (very long) days and three (very short) months, the 2020
@indyindians
media guide is officially done.
Year 1 of having my dream job in baseball is off to a pretty weird start, but one piece of normal is now checked off the list. I’m very proud of that.
Over half the time that the Cardinals get Bryant out, it’s by strikeout. That’s 30% of his total career ABs against the Cardinals. Let’s assume for ~fun~ that Yadi was behind the plate for all his ABs, calling pitches. You want more direct head to head stats? Here.
Oh yeah, hey, little announcement:
I've joined the
@IAwrestle
content team covering Iowa HS & Hawkeye wrestling for 2021 (& beyond? 👀). I'm super excited to work with everyone there & to create some cool things over the course of the season.
First story in the books. ⤵️
When
@justicesulliv11
was deciding on a D1 football program, his dad
@JakeSullivanNXT
had some advice: Go where you're wanted and where you'll still be happy if you never see the playing field.
Iowa was his perfect fit.
First for
@hawkeyenation
.
Four weeks ago, I wrote down a quick note about accountability at wrestle-offs. It turned into my final
@TheDailyIowan
project, which was by far the most fun thing I’ve ever gotten to write.
Okay so what we’re not gonna do is call the team pathetic for being one-hit after they’re one of two NL teams standing.
If you do that, you obviously don’t understand the nature of baseball. They play 162 in the regular season for a reason.
Last night was my very last night at The Daily Iowan, ever. Over the past 3.5 years I’ve had more amazing opportunities than I could have ever imagined and met some of my best friends. I’m very lucky.
Now, onto the next adventure.
Lately my dog has been getting really freaked out over various statues in Indianapolis that we’ve already walked by a million times.
The latest and greatest? Peyton Manning.
One year ago today I realized, despite any disrespect, doubt or trials thrown at me, that working in baseball is 100% where I'm meant to be.
I needed that reminder more than ever this week.
An Indiana native, lessons learned from both the baseball field and the basketball court led Scott Rolen to a long, resilient MLB career.
Rolen, his HS coach and TLR spoke on his love for baseball and worth ethic in all stages of his career.
At around this time on Election Night 2016, I was chilling at the DNC event in Des Moines as a reporter.
Fast forward 4 years, I just got chicken tenders delivered and put a cake in the oven.
Life comes at you quick. Let’s have ourselves a night.
"Learning from the Iowa program showed me more than I think anywhere else could have. "
Iowa beat reporter
@kayserannam
explains what it has been like to cover the Hawkeyes the past two seasons and how the team welcomed her with open arms.
