@redefinestammer @MeganReitz1 @i_stutter A beautiful reminder about really ‘being’ in a conversation and the importance of true attention - that what we mindfully ‘do’ makes a difference!

@Shelley58521995 @longcovidadvoc1 Ah - I do now see the difference between primary and secondary care. Yes - psychological help is needed for the secondary ‘suffering’ that arises.

@StephFBurgess I like this holistic, visual; the way the ‘cup’ is affected and supported by the saucer and the plate (in a social context) BUT - I want to simplify all the language, make it more accessible! Am wondering what an added biscuit might stand for? :)

@LauraPayneSLT The most helpful course I did was a 1 year post graduate certificate in counselling. It taught me to really listen, to sense and to understand that the answers are within the person you are talking to - it was a huge relief to realise that I didn’t have to have all the answers!

@Officaljatman @BJHill12 @redefinestammer @stammer @JanePowell_solo Wouldn’t that be great! A common language - the world understanding a stammer in a non judgemental way. Your experiences - personal stories and sharing what you need - are so important to share, so people understand what experiencing a stammer is like and how they can help!

@StephFBurgess @alirohat @redefinestammer @YorksFluencyCEN @DysfluencyCEN @BDCFT_SLT @stammer I suspect people haven’t thought about it much - language is so embedded in culture and we just continue using words on automatic not really knowing that they mean something quite ‘icky’! We need new words but before that we need to change attitudes through other means :)

@alirohat @StephFBurgess @redefinestammer @YorksFluencyCEN @DysfluencyCEN @BDCFT_SLT @stammer Exactly - we don’t currently have the language to talk about a stammer acceptably - I guess that was my conclusion - what next? :)

@alirohat @StephFBurgess @redefinestammer @YorksFluencyCEN @DysfluencyCEN @BDCFT_SLT @stammer In despair how discussion over an article written about neurodiversity & stigmatised language has led to the thinking that the use of unhelpful, medical jargon is still acceptable for any of the ‘dys’ differences cited: Oxford Dict. Definition ‘Dys’ means ‘bad. difficult’

@BJHill12 @Officaljatman @redefinestammer So, if we all understand a stammer or a stutter or whatever other countries in the world call it as a neurological event that affects language I believe it will be less judged, less, stigmatised and we will all have a common understanding of it

@Officaljatman @redefinestammer So you have chosen to differentiate between the words stammer and stutter through your experience and you have chosen to define the words as something that you do
a verb! I am arguing it’s more helpful for society to understand a stammer or stutter as a neurological event!

@Patrick1992C Yes - I thought about this when I made the eLearning ‘About Stammering (2019) and decided not to have a true/false question in my quiz related to a stammer and intellect that is usually included in many myth busting stammering quizzes that currently exist

@Officaljatman @redefinestammer Hi - stammer and stutter mean the same thing and have the same word root, so as you read just replace stammer with stutter - I have enclosed a link to show you the word roots
