I will be here until this ship goes down
But if you want to find me elsewhere, I'm @ theatreislife on TikTok and @ lastmidnight on instagram, because what is brand consistency?
And maybe if this site dies I'll actually have time to keep my instagram up to date
There are only two Try Guys I know and care about and that’s the gay one and the one that doesn’t know a single lyric to any musical theatre song ever.
Taylor Swift essentially wrote a one sided The Last 5 Years in chronological order in real time and if you mashup Cornelia Street and You’re Losing Me it is just as devastating as Goodbye Until Tomorrow/I Could Never Rescue You
This is the kind of production quality I want to see more of on Broadway tbh. Like if you are going to use projection elements it better look like this!
Curious to see all the hate for Cabaret’s performance that I thought was one of the best of the night. The entire performance is giving creepy, gritty animatronic at a rundown amusement park which feels remarkably fitting for a story that keeps repeating itself through history
Now I’m seeing “Wicked on stage could be shorter” like ppl are we seeing the same show? You want a show with that many plot holes to be SHORTER?
Anyway, give me 5hrs of Wicked. Show me more of an arc between E & G at school. Fix the timeline in Act 2. Strengthen Elphie/Fiyero
TON of changes to Shrek on tour including but not limited to:
- No T slur!
- bipolar has been changed to erratic
- crossdressin’ has been changed to fabulous
- Build a Wall is cut
- A new Once Upon a Time motif sprinkled throughout by the ensemble
If Hadestown made you “long for a happy ending”, may I present & Eurydice! When the one she loves turns on her, Eurydice waits for no one to find a fresh beginning, featuring such hits as Miley Cyrus’s Flowers and Nelly’s Hot in Herre as she proves there’s life after Orpheus
The people not wanting to go to the movies alone conversation has really brought to light that most people seem to think they are being perceived way more than they actually are. People don’t spend that much time thinking about strangers, do what you want when you want!
Non-theatre people: musicals are always happy!
Theatre people: wow, I’m so happy we have a fun feel-good musical comedy this season finally!
We truly live in a bubble
The fact we're getting a Music Man cast recording and not one of the Broadway Company cast because of stupid business decisions is going to be my villain original story
We talk a lot about these two fantastic coincidences and not enough about the two times Phillipa Soo finished a show with one final exclamation to the audience.
if i had a nickel for every time in a musical that sara bareilles cheated on her husband and every time brian d'arcy james pretended he didn't need help from his much more competent wife, i'd have four nickels. which isn't a lot, but it's weird that both have happened twice
I get the producers do the musical speeches, but having a man give the speech for Company and a white woman give the speech for A Strange Loop just shows how far we still need to go behind the scenes 😬
If I had a nickel for every time I sat onstage of a Broadway theatre and saw a future cast member of NYTW's Merrily We Roll Along bare their ass in the 2000s, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice
An original musical on Broadway by a new Black writer, with body diversity and trans rep. If y'all let this show flop I will never forgive y'all. THIS IS THE CHANGE WE'VE BEEN ASKING FOR PLEASE PLEASE SUPPORT THIS!
Because this is absolutely the vibes of this production. Kit is literally running around this entire theatre right before this sharing his love and excitement about Juliet with every one in the audience so it only makes sense the audience would share it right back.
They also give all their artists album residuals and live stream each of their shows during the original run before releasing a proshot for free
So yes, Starkid is better not just with some of their content but as a model
I am literally begging people: Don't wait until a show's final week to go see it. If y'all had this much energy trying to go see Company 2 months ago, it wouldn't be closing on Sunday. Plan the trip, set the date, support live shows so they can keep running.
If I had a nickel for every actress who was absolutely snubbed after an incredible performance in an under appreciated musical adaptation that went on to play Louise in a Gypsy revival…
Remember how Jennifer Holliday blew everyone away with her Tony performance, rightfully won, and then never originated another role on Broadway to this day? Can we make sure that DOESN’T happen with Joaquina?
If you are a new director, and I can not stress this enough, DON’T DO TRANSITIONS IN A BLACKOUT! Block transitions. Use them to tell a story. Don’t have your audience sit in silence while furniture gets shuffled around
Renaming your show to Bad after it was critically panned is camp and from a marketing perspective I’m fascinated. I hope they full on lean into it and use the bad reviews as pull quotes
Why is it all cis white men over here saying performers need to give their best all the time? When has a cis white man ever given their best all the time??
For $59 you could get a rush ticket to Into the Woods, or a full priced ticket in the front row of the balcony for A Strange Loop with a dollar to spare (and a free workout thrown in). It's true, rush ticket prices are getting out of hand
They are uni students in a fictional universe with magic and shit and y'all are convinced this universe follows the same age schedule ours does? Or that Elphie is of actual freshman age and didn't get held back to she could attend with her YOUNGER sister? USE YOUR IMAGINATION
I just want to thank the new Into the Woods for splitting up all the songs so I can add songs to playlists and it’s not a 15min track. (I know the last revival and movie did this… but why would I add those to playlists)
Somebody just commented on my of my TikToks that the
@TheTonyAwards
opening number should feature all of the understudies and standbys this year, and now I gotta know how do we make this happen?
The more I think about gendered acting categories the less they make sense. You’re telling me both Katrina Lenk and Tony Shalhoub could win leading awards for the same show but voters had to pick between Kristin and Idina because… gender?
I’m over people discrediting the Bridgerton album for not being musical theatre when just full on concert albums are nominated for the award all the time. It feels very much in the vein of thinking digital theatre isn’t actual theatre.
Whenever & Juliet starts stuntcasting, I’d like to put in a request for Kelly Clarkson/Anne Hathaway and Justin Guarini/Shakespeare please and thank you
If anyone ever tells you streaming theatre will kill in person sales, just tell them the tale of how, despite being able to buy a digital ticket or wait for the proshot to drop on YouTube, I traveled by sketchy bus to see this IN PERSON
I mean this in the nicest way possible, but if you immediately blindly discredit a musical because it's adapted from a film, I'm going to immediately discredit your opinion.
for colored girls…, Thoughts of a Colored Man, Company and Six all in the same season is just reason enough to have a Best Ensemble Cast category at the Tonys
