@thakurign
I don't buy this argument. Most Indian restaurants have "Chicken Tikka Masala" or "Butter chicken" -- albeit, tasting pathetic. How can people think all Indians are vegetarians after this?
October visa bulletin is out. Indian EB1 final action date is 01/01/17. That means, someone has to wait almost 7 years for GC. Imagine a bright scholar, going for a faculty position -- he/she can't apply for AFOSR/ONR YIP, since he'll run out of time to get a GC.
Two final year PhD students from my lab got offers today from two leading semiconductor company's research labs. Extremely happy that they could continue their research and explore new dimensions.
Humbled and honored to receive the
@UT_Dallas
Jonsson School Assistant Professor award for my research contributions. Thankful to my family, colleagues, friends and my brilliant group of students!!
I don't watch too many films. Saw this Tamil movie called "Maharaja" tonight. Undoubtedly, one of the best Indian movies I have seen in the recent past. If you have some time, don't miss this wonderful movie in Netflix.
am looking for multiple fully-funded PhD students in my lab at University of Texas at Dallas starting from Fall 2022. Possible research topic include: Cybersecurity, Deep Learning accelerators, Quantum Computing and Functional Safety.

Not required. But, it'd be great to have a course on history of modern Indian scientists. Almost 50-60% of my colleagues in Bangalore haven't heard of Homi Bhabha.

Two things stand out for me:
1) People are generally more courteous and honest.
2) Getting a government job done is way smoother than many other countries.
@amuldotexe
I have a friend who is a physics phd from US. Went back to India after postdoc. now finding it very difficult to return back to US.
I consider myself incredibly lucky to be able to return back to US.
The community I'm from, i.e., VLSI Testing, considers International Test Conference (ITC) as the biggest venue. I was lucky to have 1 ITC during PhD. Over the last two years, I have 3 ITCs. Blessed to have a bright group of students!!
Yesterday, my 4th student defended his PhD thesis. Dr. Shamik Kundu has done exceptional work in the safety and security of DL Accelerators. He has published first-author papers in conferences like DAC, ITC, VTS, and HOST, as well as journals like IEEE TCAD, TC, and TVLSI.
I am excited to share that my fifth PhD student, Chao Lu, defended his thesis today. Chao's thesis focused on improving Quantum Design Automation. He will join Oakridge National Lab as a postdoctoral researcher. Congrats, Dr. Lu, and best wishes for your future.
Since academic job interviews are going on, here are some tips that I followed four years ago. Just to mention, I received 5 offers from 6 schools that I interviewed. The following approach helped me a lot
1) You never know what you will learn even if the topic doesn't have any correlation with your research area. Spending just one hour, if you don't have an impending deadline, doesn't hurt you.
Hi
@iamrajchoco
, loved the trailer of "Habji Gabji". As an academic working on children's mobile app security, I really think this is a very very important topic!!
I am looking for a PhD student in Quantum Computing starting in my lab at UT Dallas in Fall 2024. If you are in the US, the start date can be preponed as well. If interested, please email me your resume at kanad.basu

Kolkata is a weird city. There is a match between Argentina and France, as a result, there are no taxis at the airport!!
Lesson learnt: Never travel in Kolkata during a World cup final.

"Too many dumb people who got lucky and now think they are smart." -- best statement!! I realized this multiple times during my career in Bangalore.
Just finished reading the paper "GRAD-MATCH: A Gradient Matching Based Data Subset Selection for Efficient Deep Model Training" (ICML 2021) by my colleague
@rishiyer
. Fascinating work. It has been some time since I felt so satisfied reading a paper.
My second PhD student, Dr. Ayush Arunachalam defended his thesis yesterday. He will be joining NXP's functional safety team to continue his research on ML-based functional safety. Proud of all you have achieved Ayush.
@gauravsabnis
Few days ago, in my school whatsapp group, somebody asked a friend relocated to Vancouver to exercise caution as "anti-India sentiments" are growing there!!
I am looking for a postdoctoral researcher at UT Dallas, in the fields of Hardware Security Verification. If you have a PhD in Hardware Verification, Validation and/or Security, please send me your resume at kanad.basu

With all the excitement around ChatGPT, the question arises is: how LLMs can be used for improving chip design? Presenting our work, which, for the first time, shows how to automatically generate hardware security properties using LLMs.
Visiting the Grand Canyon? Why not spend some time to visit Arizona State University for the VLSI Test Symposium? While you are there, please make sure to check out our paper titled "Analyzing and Mitigating Circuit Aging Effects in Deep Learning Accelerators"
@theliverdr
I worked in Bangalore in one of the largest software companies. Most of my colleagues knew everything sans science. Mostly they studied science in school to get into engineering and get a 6 digit salary at age 22.
Happy to share that our paper titled "Design and Analysis of a Scalable and Efficient Quantum Circuit for LWE Matrix Arithmetic" has been accepted at ICCD 2022. In this work, we design a quantum circuit for LWE, an important component of post-quantum cryptography.
Happy to share that our team from
@UT_Dallas
has won the second prize at
@CSAW_NYUTandon
Logic Locking competition -- Global. Last year, we won the third prize in the same competition.

@sarkar_swati
Remember the story in Mahabharata when Dronacharya was impressed by Arjuna's focus on the bird? Unfortunately, that is considered bad in today's India. Somebody just focusing on studies and not obliging to peer pressure is considered bad.
Excited to state that our paper on diagnosing faults in AI accelerators has been accepted for publication at IEEE TCAD. Simply saying, this paper is analogous to diagnosing whether you have COVID or flu once you detect fever. This is my 12th TCAD paper!!
Excited to share that our paper first paper on Quantum Computing has been accepted for publication at ISLPED 2022. The greatest benefit of being an academic is the freedom to explore the unknown. Congrats to my brilliant students for putting it all together!!
Recently conducted Indian elections have raised some concerns on EVM hacking. But, can EVMs be hacked? To find out the answer, please attend our workshop.
Finished reading "In her tracks" by
@robertdugoni
during my flight from SFO. What an emotional, dark thriller.
@srijitspeaketh
please make a movie on it. Bangla needs a dark thriller!!
Thanks
@UT_Dallas
for this wonderful article on our latest paper on securing Quantum Neural Networks, to be presented at IEEE HOST. This work strengthens our footprint in the domain of Quantum Machine Learning.
UPDATE: Visa renewals in the US now expected to begin in 2024. “Early next year, the Mission plans to implement a pilot program that would allow domestic visa renewal for qualified H&L-category employment visa applicants.”
We will be presenting the following three papers in
#DAC2024
. If you are in San Francisco and attending DAC, please attend your presentations. The papers cover interesting topics, including:
1) How to use LLMs for hardware security?
2) How to improve the lifecycle of automotive
Recently, I received a reviewer comment from a top-tier conference: "The proposed approach is very simple". And this was a weakness according to the person!! I am not sure I understand this mentality.
Agree with this. When I got a patent in Bangalore (that too in a company that boasts about the most number of patents), I was taken to task by my manager because if I innovate, "we won't get projects from the US. Focus on execution, and not on innovation".
Was talking with my dad, who did his PhD in 1970s. Realized how much blessed we are with "Google Scholar", among other things. Thanks Alex Verstak and Anurag Acharya!!
