"Expulsion of Polish and Jewish population from Oświęcim and nearby villages 1940-42" The online lesson dedicated to expulsions that the German authorities carried out between 1940-42 against the Polish & Jewish inhabitants of Oświęcim & nearby villages. As a result of decisions undertaken by the German authorities, from 8,000 to 9,000 inhabitants were expelled from the barrack settlement and Zasole district in Oświęcim as well as from eight villages to the west of Oświęcim. Moreover, a large proportion of the inhabitants of Monowice, which originally had a population of 1,500, were deprived of their homes and land. Additionally, over 7,000 Jews were expelled in several stages from Oświęcim, the vast majority of whom would later be murdered in the gas chambers of Birkenau.
