Turns out most of you work on 2 papers at a time, followed closely by those veritable machines who work on 4 or more simultaneously (phew)

By 2028, AI-generated music will account for 20% of streaming platforms’ revenues & 60% of music libraries’ revenues. AI developers will net €4bn via unlicensed reproduction of existing music, with no compensation for musicians. Policymakers, wake up

Am in grading jail at the moment, but it's actually fun (??) My students have written excellent essays on the philosophy of art, and many have used brilliant musical examples to illustrate their views. I'm getting so many banging listening suggestions out of the deal 💪

Nice to see Trinity College's 2011 recording of the Howells Requiem selected as the best one available. Outrageously, however, the write-up makes no mention of my exemplary bellowing in the alto section

Looking forward to talking about musical expression today at the ASA in Chicago! (And also to reflecting on the obvious fact that nobody has ever looked cooler than Bill Evans)

@cmlittlejohn is the intuition that, if 98% of the claims were false and you knew them to be so but not which ones they were, but published the book anyway, that would count as evidence of an intention to deceive on your part? but not for 1% of claims?

@cmlittlejohn Absolutely. I mean, ultimately we're all in this because we had these kinds of experiences as students ourselves. It's so cool to get to be the one creating those experiences for others now!

Sartre: Writing isn't neutral description. To write is to act: it's to change things, for better or worse. Any writer must face up to the fact that his or her words are 'loaded pistols'. (From 'What is writing'?)

Writing a lecture for my aesthetics class about Spotify's co-opting of music as a surveillance tool, and how this amounts to a deliberate attempt to turn music's emancipatory power against those who love it most. We'll see what the students make of this one...

This, by @ollie, is fantastic: an account of how you manage to fix a 50-year-old spacecraft hurtling through interstellar space when nobody remembers how it works, and the data you need is possibly on 8-track tapes stored in someone's dad's garage
