We’ve had complaints from moms for calling their son the losing pitcher (“It was his team’s fault they lost; not his!”) and for saying a pitcher lost a pitchers’ duel (“He pitched better than the other boy; if it was a duel, he won it.”)
Saying "unearned run" reminds me of the time the woman called in very upset with a story in which we said a local prep softball team scored four unearned runs. "They earned all of those runs. THEY WORK HARD EVERY DAY," she said.
